Security Cameras – Expert Advice On Hidden Video Cameras

Remember when James Bond had a hidden video camera in his pen? Remember how awesome that seemed? Well, these devices are no longer just the toys of Hollywood or the very rich. Now, even a person on minimum wage can afford a video camera that can fit almost anywhere and is capable of delivering high quality images.

Security cameras are not just to record a crime in progress. Maybe you have a cat that makes a mess of your flower beds, you know its the neighbor’s, but she refuses to admit it. A video of kitty doing its thing cannot be dismissed. Maybe someone has been lurking around and you want a permanent record of this person, whether you think its a burglar checking things out or someone stalking you or a loved one. The police just love a video recording. It saves them all kinds of trouble.

The business environment is really tough right now. Profits are slim or not there at all. If you own your own business, you cannot afford employee theft. One well placed hidden security camera can end all that. An excellent example is someone I know. He owns a liquor store. A lot of stock was disappearing. Try as he might, he couldn’t find where it was all going and who was doing it. One day, he installed a hidden video camera in the exit sign above the rear door. That day, he caught the janitor taking some bottles out in a garbage bag. End of theft.

The hidden security cameras that are mentioned above use a device called an sv card. What this means is that these devices are not only wireless, but they don’t need a central receiver. The videos are stored on the machine itself. Whenever you want, you take the camera to your computer or bring a laptop to it, download the images and you can examine the evidence at your leisure. Simple, cheap and extremely effective. What’s really neat is that many of these cameras have motion sensors built in so that they will only record when they sense movement. You can even adjust the field of view so that critters or little kids won’t trigger the camera.

Hidden video cameras are incredibly flexible. These are just two examples of their features.

Probably the greatest feature of these devices is that you don’t have to worry about placing them where a radio signal can get through to a central receiver of some sort. Locate it, hide it, plug and play. Kids and pets can be programmed out.

These cameras can be hidden in any number of ingenious ways. Inside a floodlight, an exit sign, wall clock, coffee maker and so forth. It sets your imagination to racing, doesn’t it?

As incredible as these devices are, bear in mind that they never stopped one crime. They only gather evidence that can’t be argued away. To actually prevent crime, you want to install highly visible cameras. How to do this effectively will be the subject of the next article.

The world today has gone literally gone acronym crazy. Every industry has its own plethora of acronyms to bamboozle the uninitiated. Acronyms are also often a source of great pain for those people who have to create procedure documents for their industry. There is a way to survive this turmoil through the power of Autocorrect and it will definitely save you time.

Autocorrect was originally developed by Microsoft to help those people using Microsoft Office and in particular Microsoft Word overcome typing issues but it has also become the saviour to those working in an acronym world.

I hear you saying it, HOW!

An acronym in essence is short couple of characters that have a special meaning for example in Australia we have a term called the Australian Business Number which has an acronym abn. If you were producing a lot of documents that refer to the term Australian Business Number you would find it takes a little time to right that whole name. In many cases it would be inappropriate to actually use the acronym. What Autocorrect allows you to do is to program into the application the term abn and associate it with the full name Australian Business Number.

What this means is that when you are typing your documents and you need to refer to the term Australian Business Number, you simply type in abn and as you press the space bar Microsoft Word will then convert the acronym abn to Australian Business Number.

So why does it do this?

Like I mentioned before, Autocorrect was really developed to overcome the issue of people mistyping words. Essentially as you type Autocorrect checks to see if what you are typing is correct and if its not it will correct it with the options in the Autocorrect list. Some of the common typing mistakes you might incur would cna instead of can. If you open Microsoft Word and type in cna it will automatically correct it to can.

Autocorrect is actually available in all Microsoft Office Applications which include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook and FrontPage. Now the really cool part about this is that if you setup an Autocorrect entry in say Microsoft PowerPoint, it will also be available in all of the other applications. This means that you are going to save time both in the initial setup but also whilst you are creating these documents.

If you find that when you tried the example I gave to you before that it did not convert the misspelt word to the correct word then most likely the AutoCorrect function has been turned off. To turn it on in Microsoft Word 2003 simply choose the Tools menu and then choose AutoCorrect Options. You will see a checkbox next to the words “Replace Text as you type”. If the checkbox does not have a tick next to it then you need to click once on the check box to activate it. Then finish off the process by pressing the OK button.

There are three autocorrect entries which I think are absolutely essential to know and that is how you can insert the Trade Mark Symbol, Registered Symbol and Copyright Symbol without using the symbol command. All you do is type the following -

(tm) – Creates the Trade Mark Symbol

(c) – Creates the Copyright Symbol

(r) – Creates the Registered Symbol

Autocorrect is certainly one of the tools that I think is really cool but is often misunderstood and not used to its full potential. Using AutoCorrect in this way will save you hours of time when dealing with acronyms. It might take a little time setting up your acronyms but once its completed it will save you countless hours and make you far more efficient and effective in using the Microsoft Office Suite

When you first buy a computer from a shop it will be Fast, because you were sold a computer with the bare minimum only installed on it – Windows Vista and Microsoft Works (or Microsoft Office) for example. It is not heavily installed with Updated Security files (Security Updates) and Patches (Fixed/Improved/Updated Windows Vista files and program files) because the shop cannot do this. Once you have bought a computer you have to be the one to register Windows Vista with Microsoft and therefore it is you who has to install any additional Security Updates and Patches for that computer and Windows Vista. For example. If it took the shop 2 Months to sell the computer that means the computer is already 2 months behind with the updates – Many new security updates, virus updates and program updates would have been released in this time. And maybe some software updates for the computer’s hardware as well. All these updates are required to keep the computer up-to-date, and more importantly Windows Vista up-to-date and protected against attack from Viruses, Hackers and so on. What this means is without the updates you have a fast, but vulnerable (open to attack), computer. With the updates the computer becomes slower and slower due to Windows Vista being given more security tasks (jobs) to do, which means more memory and resources are required, which in turn means the hardware might become slower (more modem/internet data coming down the telephone line, for example, means more data that has to be translated/organised).

PROTECTION AND MONITORING MEANS SLOWER AND SLOWER

You install an Anti-Virus program to protect the computer from Viruses (files that are, normally, downloaded onto your hard drive and then launched to damage certain files). You then install a program to block Pop-up windows (Windows that appear suddenly without your consent. Usually with Advertisements on them). You then install a program to stop Hackers (people who try and steal information from your computer via an Internet connection). And finally, you install a program to stop SpyWare (software that monitors/collects information about your activities on the computer). Unfortunately, in todays age, these four types of program are needed to protect the computer. If you do not install them the computer’s security is at risk and if you do install them the computer uses up more memory and other resources, as well as having more tasks to do. This is because each program is constantly monitoring the computer for attacks. The information they need about the different kinds of attack are usually stored inside a file that has to be updated regularly and checked against in order to prevent/stop a specific kind of attack. When an attack has been identified the protection program still has to monitor for other potential attacks whilst taking care of the identified attack. And if a window tries to pop-up the pop-up blocker program has to destroy that window before it has chance to appear. All this monitoring is slowing the computer down.

The same applies to the Internet. It becomes slow when you have ten website pages open, as opposed to one website page open, because Internet Explorer is having to do ten tasks instead of one. Those tasks include saving history files (see The Hard Drive section) for each website, checking to see if you are still connected to the internet, managing uploads/downloads to/from each website and so on.

FOREVER GROWING UPDATE FILES

An anti-virus program uses a Virus Definition file, which is a list of all known viruses to the present day and instructions on how to identify and remove them. As a new virus is unleashed it is given a name and its Identify And Remove instructions are added to the virus definition file. When the anti-virus program starts it copies the identify and remove instructions from the virus definition file into memory, so it can quickly identify and remove a known virus. Memory is faster than a File at feeding the CPU instructions, so it is ideal for the anti-virus program to use memory. The downside of this is that anti-virus programs, and other programs that need updated files, use a lot of memory and other resources in order to protect the computer. This ultimately means a slower computer.

TOO MANY PROGRAMS INSTALLED

Having too many, unwanted/unneeded/unused, programs installed on the computer is a bad thing. Regardless if they were already installed when you got the computer or if they were installed by someone afterwards does not matter. Either way they are probably taking up too much hard drive space and/or using up too much memory and other resources. If this is the case you should have them uninstalled. Below are examples of such programs. Many of them will be Sluggish At Times when your broadband in runnning at a slow speed, for whatever reason(s), in conjunction with your computer having too many other tasks to perform.

Sometimes you might need to install an updated program because it improves on the previous one (such as DirectX 9 and Media Player 10) which improve graphics and sound respectively. On the other hand it is sometimes unwise to install an updated program. For example. Do not install the latest Media Player just because everyone else has or because it has a couple of minor updates/features added to it that you might never use. Instead. Go to an Internet Cafe and ask them what they think. You can always download and test the media player on one of their computers. That way, if you do not like it or feel it would not be worth putting on your computer no harm will have been done to your computer. Also. Do not install different types of the same software if you only need one type. Companies are to blame for this kind of thing – One company might prefer the already installed Microsoft’s media player while another company might prefer to install Real’s media player (RealPlayer). So you end up with two media players installed on the computer that do roughly the same thing.

SPEED UP

Use a computer that has at least a 1.6Ghz CPU (Central Processing Unit) inside it. Better still. A Dual Core CPU.
Windows Vista is too slow with 1GB of Memory and normally sluggish with 1½GB, therefore I recommend you use at least 2GB.
Windows Vista Self-Installation: Install at least a 40GB (80GB preferably) 7200rpm Hard Drive, if possible.
Windows Vista Bought Computer: Make sure the Hard Drive is at least a 80GB Hard Drive.
Do not install too much software.
Uninstall unwanted/unneeded/unused software.
Try and get the balance of security right by not over protecting the computer.
Try not to use programs that use too much memory and resources.
Try and keep the number of running programs down to a minimum.

When you add all this up – Many programs writing/reading files to/from the hard drive at the same time (giving the hard more tasks), Many programs waiting for system resources such as Memory to become available (because of memory shortage), Programs monitoring the Internet (slowing the internet and the computer down) waiting for bad things to happen and having many programs running at the same time (so many tasks) – it is no wonder the computer slows down. If you were given that many tasks (chores) you would complain that you are only human and only have one pair of hands. A computer is only a machine. It complains in different ways by slowing down and occasionally crashing/freezing because you were giving it too many tasks. If you follow the advise given so far you should end up with a comfortable computer – one that runs smoothly, even if it is not as fast as when you first bought it.

Are you frustrated with your PC that it runs so slow even though you have just bought it a few days ago? You don’t have all the time in the world to bring your PC back and forth to the manufacturer even when it is still covered by warranty. Do you know that you can resolve the slow speed of your PC on your own when you have the right tools? Here’s everything you need to know in troubleshooting your slow PC.

In troubleshooting your slow PC, one of the basic things but oftentimes the most crucial thing is to isolate the problem. Make sure that you rule out everything including your internet connectivity, wireless o wired, as the culprit in slowing down your PC. When you have done so, check your hard disk as it may have too much of unnecessary files that eat up the space and the memory. What you can do instantly is to use the system tools that come with your windows operating system like the disk clean up and disk defragmenter to eliminate these unwanted files, start > accessories > system tools > disk clean up or disk defragmenter. You may also wish to optimize your browser.

Next, see if there are just too many programs installed on your computer that are already unnecessary and which you do not need. You can uninstall these programs to save space and to speed up your computer in the process. You can do this by accessing the Control Panel > add/remove programs. It is important that when you uninstall programs in your computer, you should use this utility to correctly remove the programs and prevent fragments that may cause errors in your computer.

This leads us to the next but very crucial step in troubleshooting your slow PC. Are you aware that majority if not all slow speed issues of your computer are due to a corrupted registry? What this means is that either the registry has missing files or it is cluttered with too much junk that your computer accumulates over time especially when you frequently install as well as uninstall programs. The errors in your registry are considered as the culprit in slowing down the speed and performance of your PC.

Many computer users are not aware of it, but most of the time resolving computer health problems simply means cleaning the registry. But the registry is often the most neglected area of the computer when it comes to maintenance and resolution of computer issues. You may ask is there such a thing as a free registry repair that actually works?

The answer can be both a yes and a no. There are several free registry repair software programs that you can easily download from the internet, but not all of these software programs can resolve issues in your registry. There are programs that will just scan your registry for errors, identifies them, fix some of them, but ask you to upgrade to the full version to resolve all errors. What if you don’t have the budget for the upgrade?
There are also some decent free registry repair software programs that can deliver the goods. They can detect your registry errors and fix them accordingly.

But mostly, these programs are not as exhaustive and comprehensive in detecting your registry errors and therefore may not be able to resolve errors that tend to recreate themselves. You must also be wary of freeware registry repair that may appear to be effective in resolving your pc registry issues at first glance only to find out in the long run that they come with spyware that will cause more harm to your computer than what these software programs originally intend to resolve.

Choosing a registry cleaner is therefore crucial in resolving your pc health issues. When you think that there are just too many issues that need to be resolved, a free registry repair may not deliver what you expect. Besides, although these freeware can resolve your issues, they may not come with a technical support that is also crucial to ensure the stability and high performance of your computer. What this means is that if anything goes wrong in the course of running the program, you may not be able to enjoy the support of an expert on how to fix the problem.

A good registry repair software program in the full version comes with a technical support that will guide you through, step by step, in case anything unfavorable happens with the use of the registry repair software. Remember that we do not know what’s going to happen; even perfect software programs can deliver things we do not expect. It is better that a program comes with a guarantee so you will have your option and peace of mind that you are getting the most from the program.

To really solve all your computer health problems, you need to clean your registry. Ensure that even those hard-to-find errors and spyware that may be embedded in your registry are removed. Although free registry repair may help you resolve most errors, you can benefit more from a proven registry cleaner that is extensive and comprehensive in finding the errors and fixing them effectively. Start your search now.

The first thing that you will need to do when determining which type of home security system is right for you is to determine how much money is in your budget for the purchase, installation, and monthly monitoring. Keep in mind that your home insurance company may be willing to give you a relatively large discount on your yearly premiums once you have installed the system of your choice, so the unit could pay for itself within one to five years based on that alone. When locking your doors and having a dog no longer feel like the safest options, here are some things to consider.

Keep in mind that some home security companies charge a monthly system monitoring and dispatch fee, while others include this service with their price at the time of installation. Factor this amount, if any, into your budget. The next thing that you will want to consider will be reliable versus intricacy of installation. Though hardwired systems are generally considered far superior in reliability and simplicity, they can be quite costly to have placed in your home.

The hardwired system boasts five separate components which all work independently of each other, and all of them are powered by a concealed backup battery in case of power failure. What this means is that if your keypad is damaged, your motion detectors will still send alert. If you motion detectors fail, your phone line will still intercept the line and send alert. So on down the line, a hardwired system is extremely difficult for even a professional criminal to trip up, and can therefore be much more difficult and expensive to install.

The wireless units are most commonly sold in an all-in-unit, and are therefore somewhat easy to dupe. The most positive aspects of this option are that these are relatively cost effective, and they are portable. No installation is usually required, though there are units which are mounted using a coaxial cable, much like the sort which is run for satellite or cable television. The problem with these units, however, is that they are relatively simple to disarm or disable. There is no secondary or reserve alert system, so if the unit is damaged or disconnected, you are usually left with no security system.

Those opting for the hardwired security system for their home or office will want to take a look around for possible installation hang-ups, such as finished basements where damage to drywall could occur or plaster on the ceiling or walls. These types of issues can be difficult to work around, but they can be maneuvered if need be. Those opting for the wireless types of devices should expect a relatively low cast and pain free experience, and these are great for apartment or rental home living, as no drilling or other potentially destructive tactics need to take place. Whichever security option you choose, be sure that you never leave your secret codes or passwords written down anywhere.

When you choose an ADT
alarm system

Model-View-Controller (MVC) is a software approach to website building and display that separates what is called the “application logic” from the actual presentation. What this means in practice is that it permits web pages to contain just small amounts of “scripting,” or PHP commands for automated actions, since the presentation portion of the page is separate and distinct from that PHP scripting.

A few quick definitions are in order. The “Model” means the actual data structures, the various functions that empower your pages to fetch, incorporate and even update the information in the database you are using. The “View” comprises all the information presented to a website visitor, normally a web page but possibly a page “fragment” such as a header or footer, an RSS (Real Simple Syndication) page or some other “page” type. Finally, the “Controller” is the intermediary among the Model, the View and any other necessary resources, all of which work in concert to reply to an HTTP “request” and generate web pages.

Programmers compete, you win
There are already various “coding companies” bringing the MVC workflow and structure to the application shelf. Some have a somewhat “loose” approach where Models are not absolutely required. If you can live (that is, if your pages can “answer the call”) without the additional separation, or if designing and maintaining the Models is more complex than you like, you can simply build your site with just the Views and Controllers. Since you can usually incorporate your existing scripts, and develop custom core libraries, you get to work the way you want.

The notion that MVC is competing with HTML is incorrect, although some coders and site builders make a deal out of “MVC vs. HTML.” Regarding RIAs (Rich Internet Applications, full-featured software packages that run in a browser), a leading software geek-Sho Kuwamoto, former Macromedia/Adobe engineer-opines that “MVC is probably not needed for most RIAs [and] is probably overkill for the vast majority of [Adobe] Flex apps.” However, he also realizes that “MVC actually makes sense for the HTML-based world.”

Peacemakers, not code warriors
This is hardly the type of “us versus them” talk some are using, and is much more sensible. Another sensible observation concerns the general tendencies exhibited by programmers and engineering managers, a leading one of which is laziness. This means “laziness” in a comparative way, in the expectation that only a truly serious, otherwise insoluble problem will motivate someone like Kuwamoto to get “into MVC [for] desktop GUI programming.” For many programmers, separation between Views and Models was important, whereas separating out Controllers was in the “more trouble than it’s worth” category.

About MVC making sense “for the HTML-based world,” the explanation goes like this: There is physical separation between the View, which resides on the client computer, and the Model that is on the server. The logic for responding to user events is typically handled on the server, so does it even (or ever) make sense for Models to manage these events? The answer is a definite “no way,” so you separate the Controller logic from the Model logic. HTML and MVC capabilities can support one another, as they should, rather than be looked at as an “either/or” situation.

Downsides updated, too
There are some unpalatable things about a hybrid approach, of course. There are architectures where a single Controller handles every one of the “actions” for the whole application. A few programmers may see this as a “good thing,” while plenty of others would consider it a necessary evil, at best. Isn’t the “World of the Giant Switch Statement” one of the very things every engineer in this niche wanted to avoid by adopting object-oriented programming?

With applications like Adobe Flex and others, you have these powerful, adaptable engines on the client side that can manage the complex logic-and access web services directly. The various forces that propelled the MVC model to the forefront should be reexamined in light of the goals of each individual. It is a powerful, even necessary, development, but certainly does not presage the “end of HTML.”

For some applications it makes very good sense to separate out Controllers, and for particular components it makes sense to leverage the MVC method. For the majority of applications, however, separating Views from Models is the biggest winner in the workflow. Since, in the majority of cases, the Model part of the application comprises services that reside on an entirely different machine, the separation is something that you really have no choice about, anyway. Getting everything to work together to the greater good-the user experience-is the bottom-line goal for the scientists and the artists that join forces to push the Internet forward, often an inch or so at a time. Stay tuned to MVC, and HTML 5, or you will definitely miss something-and it could be soon, too!

Availability of VoIP phone service let you access your account from any place. That is because they exists on the Internet and any time you connected to the Internet, you can use your VoIP service. And since Internet connections are available almost everywhere, the VoIP account is accessible from anyplace.

Plenty of ways available to join a VoIP service provider but most common way is to join on the Internet. This path is easiest and is also the most widely available. Offices open for public are available with some of VoIP service providers where you can purchase the equipment and subscribe for a service, but the company’s web site is the most usual way to sign up.

There are various packages available from VoIP service providers which are vary depending on the usage of the service. While some packages are composed for home use, others are meant for offices use. Usually, what this means is that personal accounts have limited facilities, which are considered to be unnecessary for personal users.

For example there is a feature for many incoming lines per phone number. These are features, which a regular person will never need and the customer should not pay for it. On the other hand, businesses will highly appreciate such service and they will be glad to pay for those features. During signup you will be asked to choose one of the rate plans that are designed for different situations.

There are also many packages of different kind for calling to specific destinations and areas around the world. Typically, if calling a lot internationally, there is always this one package that is meant for calling to many different countries across the globe. International callers will prefer this package, while customers making preferably local calls will choose another plan. That type of rate plans will include a monthly fee and the calls will be for no charge for you. There is also a pay as you go plan, with a low monthly fee if you plan to make only a few calls per month.

All the unlimited packages are a very good bargain and you get pretty good savings with them. For sums like $21 or $22, you can make any number of calls you want, to specified destinations. This makes your regular phone bill disappear and there are no hidden costs either. As long as you member of such plan, you can make all the phone calls you need. As meter of fact, you can stay connected all day long and you still don’t have to pay any extra money. That is the experience you will enjoy while you are with VoIP phone service.

The people around the world are switching over to VoIP to cut their expenses and make more phone calls than have done ever before. The knowledge that there is only a low monthly fee to pay every month is certainly very liberating.

Advanced VoIP service technology is widely available to join.

Intel Corporation has recently signed an agreement to acquire Wind River Systems, Inc. for $884 million. Wind River Systems is a leading embedded software company that develops technology for use in smartphones, mobile Internet devices as well as car entertainment systems. Its impressive client base is composed of NASA, Hewlett-Packard, Boeing, Motorola, Samsung and Apple to name a few.

About Wind River

Wind River Systems, Inc. was founded in 1981 and has since established a reputation for being a leader in device software optimization. Over the years it has consistently developed premium quality platforms that can be utilized in a variety of devices. It has its own proprietary operating system, VxWorks and also offers Wind River Linux, a Linux-based operating system designed for embedded devices.

Aside from software and middleware, Wind River also provides solutions and services for the automotive, aerospace and defense and industrial industries. There are a host of other first rate products and services under the Wind River brand.

What this Means for Intel

Wind River Systems brings to Intel a massive portfolio of products and services, and this agreement now makes Intel not only a microprocessor company but also a potentially huge player in the software industry. Experts have reason to believe Intel is making plans of going into the software market as some of its most recent acquisitions are that of software-based companies. If this is so, then software will no longer be relegated to the background at Intel, rather it’s now one of the main sources of revenue for the company.

The Wind River buy certainly extends Intel’s product range considerably and this makes the semiconductor a sort of one-stop shop for technology needs. It can now offer not only processors but software and services as well. Experts do say that the buy is indeed a very good move for Intel not only because it extends Intel’s reach in terms of product and service range but also because it presents an opportunity to develop more partnerships – with other companies, with clients and customers.

Intel’s entry into the market however, will have its share of challenges. For instance, if Intel wants to penetrate the mobile phone market with the Atom chip, it must realize it will compete with the likes of Samsung and other mobile phone companies which use solid ARM chips. There have been previous failed attempts by Intel to penetrate the chip market which goes to show that accomplishing success in this market isn’t as straightforward as it may appear.

What this Means for Wind River

For Wind River, this development is seen as a sign of even better things to come. Although the acquisition will result in a few layoffs largely because of redundancy issues, executives at Wind River sees this as an opportunity for the company to achieve further growth. Being a wholly-owned subsidiary, Wind River executives do not expect any major transformations in the way they will go about their business. The Wind River brand will be retained, and, according to Wind River, the company will continue to develop products and services according to the business architecture of the company. GP

As a Microsoft Office instructor for fifteen years, I have used and taught the numerous and powerful features that Excel has to offer. I enjoyed applying and sharing these great features since the first time I used Excel in 1989. I remember when I first used Excel 5 in the early 90’s. Many of Excel’s great features were seen for the first time, such as auto-filter, sorting, great formatting and the very useful pivot table. As a database programmer for more than twenty years, the simple, yet powerful database features in Excel are really appreciated.

This latest version of Excel has some key improvements in many of the database features, which will help users greatly. For instance, the first thing many of us do with list of data in Excel is sort it. Before Excel 2007, you could sort up to three levels (columns). Now you can sort up to 64 levels, and you can sort by cell or font color too! One simple trick I have always used and which is often a surprise even to some of my more advanced Excel students is the concept of a ‘region’ in Excel. Excel recognizes where a group of cells containing data ends. For example, a region would end at the first completely empty row and column in a list or any group of cells. What this means for us is that rather than selecting an entire list or column to sort, simply select one cell in the column you want to sort, and Excel will automatically include the entire list (region) in its sort.

In addition to sorting, filtering is a good tool to use to review your data. The auto-filter, one of my favorites, has been improved by allowing filtering by color and dates. A very handy addition is the ability to see up 1,000 entries in an auto-filter drop-down menu and the power to select the ones you want. Remember that Excel’s region definition works here too. Simply select any cell to set up an auto-filter.

Another huge improvement is literally that – Excel 2007 now offers 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns. Along with the larger worksheet allowing for more records the memory management has doubled from 1GB to 2GB. This makes working with large databases possible. Finally, an especially nice feature added to Excel 2007 is the ‘table’ feature. With this feature, you can turn a database list into a table. (Remember, select only one cell in the list to invoke this). The table automatically sets up sorting and filtering functionality and some very nice formatting options, including shading every other (or third or fourth etc.) row in a multitude of colors. In addition, you can delete rows and columns in the table without impacting the rest of your worksheet and you can easily add totals to any columns containing numeric values. A powerful contextual tab displays in the ribbon when you select any cell in the table, allowing you to customize it to your own taste.

British Telecommunications known to many as BT is the nations largest telecommunications provider. Not only do they offer phone lines to their customers but a range of packages including television and broadband or internet services as well. Despite the fact that there are other providers of this service, BT still ranks as the top provider with their unbeatable prices and fast connection speeds.

As a part of their promotional offer, BT is now offering three months free broadband to their customers. It states that all customers will have the opportunity to sign up to packages that brings all call back to BT will be getting free internet for three months. What this means really is anyone on broadband and a call package or anyone signing up to their triple play package with the company, calls and BT vision, their digital television service will in exchange get three months free broadband.

The three packages that the broadband comes in gives 8Mb speed. In addition to this they are also offering their customers 24/7 customer phone support from UK landlines as well as an online always available support system. Of the options they have on offer, option one gives 10 GB downloadable limit. If however you need more in terms of downloading capacity you may find that option two with a downloadable limit of fifteen GB is what you are after and finally you have option three which offers the customer unlimited downloads.

They also offer packages which start as low as seven pounds seventy eight per month and go up to a reasonable thirteen pounds sixty nine per month depending on what you require. Be mindful that after the initial three months the prices may differ so be sure to know which package would best suit your needs.

Not surprisingly there are mixed views on what customers think of the service offered to them by this long standing company. Despite the mixed reviews, customers have to admit that even if they have experimented with other service providers they find that they end up coming back to BT.

One customer reported to have been with BT since broadband was made accessible to him in his area which happened to be approximately three miles from the exchange. He reportedly finds them and their service to be second to none. In fact he has praised them to be excellent. Technical support he found to be spot on, where they were rather very patient, kind and understanding, wanting only to resolve the query or problem in the best way. Like most services offered, there is always room for improvement and he had this to say in terms of giving feedback.

Sad to say he has advised against using their Norton bundle as well as their browser setup which both proved to be a disappointment for him. On the upside, the BT Net protect/ Mcafee product is reportedly quite good and does the job well. Another customer has praised their service and boasts of getting 700 kbs from 12 – 5 pm . As with any service provided in life, we each have our preferences and so one will find that what happens to be an excellent offer, good customer service and reasonable deals for one turns out to be quite the opposite for another. You really just have to test the waters and see what works for you.

The instant success of mobile broadband has changed the way we surf the web forever. The mobile internet technology that became a hit almost overnight shows promising signs that it is here to stay, despite causing some confusion to potential and existing customers over misunderstandings regarding the restrictions on this service and what it actually means.

The term ‘download limit’ (or ‘download allowance’) might seem straightforward enough, but there are thousands of internet users who are stumped by the meaning of the term and the implications it has for their use of the internet. The main complaint with mobile broadband providers from existing customers, and a reason for potential customers’ reluctance in signing up for a mobile broadband package, is the lack of information provided on restrictions with the mobile broadband contracts, for example, connection speeds download limits. There seems to be a plethora of internet jargon based information available, but what people want to know is, how does this translate to the average man on the street?

The most appealing feature of mobile broadband is the freedom it provides the user, allowing them to surf the internet on a laptop wherever they want. On the flipside however, unless you understand what the package you are signing up for is offering (including the limitations to downloading data) you may find yourself lumbered with big charges that can sometimes be accumulated when the monthly download allowance is exceeded.

Similar to home broadband, your mobile broadband package will come with a download limit set for each month, what this means is that there is a limit to the amount of data (in Gigabytes) you can access or download for each month. What the mobile broadband providers don’t tell you is what the allowance (in Gigabytes) is equivocal to in terms of how many emails you can send/ receive, or how many songs you can download.

Below is a simple download allowance reference, which breaks down two examples of monthly download allowances (using estimates) into layman’s terms:

It is difficult to predict how you will use the internet, but it makes life easier when you know roughly how much data each function is approximately equivalent to. For example, a plain text email (sent or received) is 20Kb, one webpage visit is worth 50Kb, one downloaded song is 3Mb, and a film is 400Mb.

On a larger scale this means that 1Gb of mobile broadband allowance lets you do all of the following:
• Send 650 emails
• Surf the web for 30 hours
• Download 60 songs
• Download 30 two-minute videos

3Gb of mobile broadband allowance will allow you to do even more, including all of the following:
• Send 2,000 emails
• Surf the web for 100 hours
• Download 200 songs
• Download 100 two-minute videos

As you can see, once equipped with the information relevant to you and your needs, there is no longer a need to be daunted by the idea of using mobile broadband. Understanding about download allowances will help you to choose the right broadband package, which in turn will mean you can surf the web on the go, without ever having to worry about exceeding your download limit or incurring extra charges.

Apple launched iTunes plus over a year ago, offering higher quality DRM-Free tracks through their iTunes store. For those of you who aren’t familiar with iTunes Plus, you’re probably asking what this means and perhaps even wondering how it will affect your iTunes music library. Well, the basics are pretty simple and it probably won’t make much of a difference to the music you’ve already purchased through iTunes. That is, of course, unless you plan to upgrade. Let’s take a look at what iTunes Plus is and what it would mean to upgrade your music collection.

First of all, with iTunes Plus all the music tracks are DRM-free and feature 256 kbps AAC encoding for extremely high quality audio. In fact, Apple claims that this new format makes the tracks “virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings.” DRM stands for “digital rights management,” so the new tracks no longer have restrictions when it comes to converting the files to different formats for use on non-Apple devices, and there’s also no limit on the number of computers you can play your purchased songs on. This offers a much greater degree of flexibility when it comes to how you use the music you’ve purchased.

Some people might not have taken notice of these new changes, but everyone who’s used to purchasing 99-cent tracks has most certainly noticed that as of April 2009 all their favorite songs have a brand new price: $1.29. This might not seem like much, but paying a 30% premium for DRM-free tracks and higher quality audio can certainly add up fast when you’re the type of person who buys several albums at a time.

So here’s the big question: do you upgrade all the existing tracks you’ve collected in your iTunes library over the past several years? It’s easy enough to do with a “one-click option,” but before you click, you might want to consider these pros and cons:

Price

It will cost you 30 cents to upgrade each track, or $3 per album. If you have, say, 200 albums in iTunes that could cost you a hefty $600!

Audio Quality

The older version tracks are already 128 kbps format, which produces very high quality audio. You might want to compare the 256 kbps and 128 kbps side-by-side before you pay big bucks to convert your whole collection to see if you even notice a difference. Most people don’t!

Compatibility

Do you have a new audio system or other device or application that doesn’t support AAC? If you’re a Windows person, it’s important to know that Windows Media Player isn’t compatible with the AAC format. With the new DRM-free tracks you can easily convert the files to MP3 format and won’t have to worry about compatibility issues.

Quality vs. Quantity

What’s more important to you, quality or quantity? You can fit twice as many 128 kbps files on your iPod as the 256 kbps files, and if you want all your music to fit in your pocket you might have a big reason to stick to the smaller files. The newest iPod shuffle with 4GB of storage holds 1000 songs – but only 500 if they’re the new 256 kbps files.

A year ago when Apple launched iTunes Plus, you still had the option of buying the lower quality format for a cheaper price. Now, like it or not, we all have to pay a little bit more for our favorite iTunes songs. But we do have an option when it comes to the tracks we already own. So, are YOU going to upgrade?

WoW masters use many different tricks to level faster. In this article I will expose 2 WoW leveling tips that will help increase your leveling speed. The techniques I’m about to reveal are both fairly basic but do make a big difference.

1. Set your Inn/Hearth Location to Dalaran or Shattrath

When Blizzard released Burning Crusade back in January 2007, there was a funky little addition. Portals in Shattrath City that link to all other major cities.

What this means is that by setting your Hearthstone to Shattrath or Dalaran you can get to other important cities by simply clicking on the portal of the place you want to go.

In Shattrath there are 2 different places you can set your Hearthstone – this confuses things a little as it’s not so obvious as in Dalaran where you have the inn’s.

1. Aldor Rise

2. Scryers Tier

If you ask a guard they will be able to tell you the general direction to the inn. If you press the “M” key you’ll also be able to see where they are. If you want you can take the lift up to where you want to head. Scryers Tier is due South while Aldors Rise is West.

Another little trick is that when you come to the lift to go down, you can jump right off and most of the time you won’t die (unless your character has poor health or body armor).

If you’re not yet a level 74, you’ll need to get a Mage to open the portal for you. This usually isn’t too hard to do in most cities – you might just need to flick the made a little gold to cover the cost of the reagent they will need to use to port you.

2. Get one of the new In Game Leveling Add-ons

In the past 6 months or so, several cool add-ons have been created. These can tell you exactly where you need to go, and what you need to do next. They really are fantastic. You save a heap of time and quests become far less time consuming.

I have been able to double my leveling time by using these add-ons. I highly recommend them if you are looking to level quickly and easily.

“Getting to know the people where you live is important not just for social reasons but also for your protection. Humans are very complicated beings and not all of us think the same, come from similar backgrounds or share identical morals and beliefs. What’s more, outside of your immediate family, most of the people you associate with you probably only known on a superficial level. In other words, you are really only aware of what the person wants to show you and in reality know very little about who they actually are.

Although it is not necessary for you to get to know everyone you meet on a personal level, for those you do cross paths with often, and whom you invite into your home, it’s important for you to dig deeper than the surface for your own safety. What this means is you should play it safe and run a background check on these individuals to make sure it is not dangerous to associate with them.

While it would be prudent to investigate everyone you meet and form a relationship with, to start you should begin by digging into the past of your current neighbors and any new people that move in on your street. Here’s how to go about running background checks on these citizens using the Internet:

First – Find a resource that looks up residents in individual states. This makes finding information easier.

Second – Look up the person by entering their full name. The correct surname is key to your success.

Third – You can attempt searching for someone by using the criminal record resources that are specific to the U.S. state (I.E. court records, incarceration records, etc.).

In addition to looking up your fellow street inhabitants, you should also find out if any sex offenders live in your area. This can be achieved with free background checks that enable you to search the national sex offender registry. To use this digital tool, simply search the name of your street, city, state and zip code and you will be provided with details regarding these criminals if any live in your city or the surrounding area.

It is your right to know who you share your neighborhood and city with, so don’t be afraid to find out.
