Touch computing has been on the way for some time now. I have mentioned it here and there. But HP’s Touchsmart 600-1055 actually gets it right.

I remember the first generation of touch screen all in ones and they were semi functional. The Touchsmart 600 is HP’s third generation TouchSmart and it is really looking nice. The high end model comes with a 16:9 23 inch screen that is pretty. Of course, the all in one look makes this less of a piece of furniture and more of an accessory.

Most people will like that. This Touchsmart comes with a nice, slot-loading blu-Ray player on the right side. The left side sports all the connections.

The HP Touchsmart 600 has the obligatory wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, and monitor with swivel. And the touchsmart suite now includes NetFlix, Hulu, TouchSmart Link, Twitter, Recipe Box , and LiveTV. It is much better than its predecessor.

The Recipe Box can read recipes to you aloud. My mother in law would love that one. The TouchSmart Link can grab photos off of your bluetooth enabled phone. And with the addition of HDMI and composite inputs, you can add a slew of gaming and video inputs. Btw, the screen is IR multitouch.

The overall gist is that it’s a good multitouch experience, especially with Windows 7 driving it and the new TouchSmart software. You will want better speakers. You can expect to pay around N225,000 for a stacked model.

If you’re thinking about getting an Apple media player this season, you might want to think twice before going with the flow to Apple iPod products. If you’re a PC owner, you’ll likely get more value from the brand new Microsoft Zune HD 32 GB. With comparable pricing, better graphics, better navigation, and easier shortcuts to your favorite music and movies, the Zune HD is not only a better option, but also a more valuable buy. But just how many features make it a better option for you to buy a Zune than the Apple iPod Touch? Let’s check out some of the best ones.

1. The screen: Not all touch screen media players are as responsive as the Apple iPod Touch and the Zune HD. But if I had to choose between the two, the Zune HD definitely gets a hands-up in quality as far as display is concerned. Its sensitivity to your commands is nothing short of amazing, while movies, even if they’re not HD, are resized to fit your screen and are displayed in brilliant visuals.

2. Software issues: Another reason you might want to buy a Zune over an i-toy from Apple is the software compatibility. If you use a PC instead of a Mac, you’re sure to have nightmares while working with your iTouch.

This is where Microsoft comes in with a better option in its Zune HD. Zune 4.0 software is used to manage your Zune, which Zune lovers crave more than iTunes for being not only more user-friendly, but less like a spreadsheet.

3. Sorting with Quickplay: Movies, videos, music, and photos are so much easier to get to when they’re in a location you control. With Quickplay on the Zune HD, you can make shortcuts to your favorite media without being controlled like you are on an iPod Touch or similar iPod product.

This makes it easier to find what you’re looking for on your Zune without doing tons of scrolling and getting carpal tunnel in your hand.

You can learn more about the Zune HD at http://entertainmentelectronics.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-microsoft-zune-hd-better-features.html, which will also help you determine if you should buy a Zune or an iPod item for your personal needs and wants.

Most portable media player fans will be flocking to the Apple iPod Touch 32 GB and 64 GB this year to upgrade from their sub-park iPod Touch 8 GB models. However, before you join them, you might want to consider the Microsoft Zune HD 32 GB, which for the first time since its inception is now a close rival to the Apple iPod Touch.

The Zune has gone from being the size of a brick to literally the same size as the iPod Touch. Quite honestly, the look and feel of the Zune is even more sleek than the iPod Touch, but that’s not its only shining quality. From easier navigation to better graphics, you might want to buy a Zune this time around instead of the iPod Touch.

1. The display touch screen: “Sleek” is the name of the game when it comes to Zune HD’s display touch screen. While you might not think of a Zune as having better screen technology than Apple’s iPod Touch, it certainly seems to be more user-friendly and crisper in display.

2. Software differences: Zune HD’s software (Zune 4.0) is far more compatible with Windows PC’s than iTunes software. No surprise, since Apple doesn’t tend to play well with others.

If you’ve ever owned (or currently own) an iPod of any type, and you use a PC instead of a Mac, then you know how much of a nightmare it can be to work with iTunes. If this is something you don’t like about your media player, make the switch to Zune HD and you’ll be much happier.

3. Zune navigation with Quickplay: It was about time someone figured out how to make shortcuts on a media player. With Quickplay, you can do just that with your recent media, favorites, playlists and more.

This beats out iTouch in a way, because with iPod software, you’re limited by the number of icons available. But you might want to buy a Zune if you would rather have this sort of control over your media.

Whether you’re a die-hard Apple iPod Touch fan or just getting into the portable media player stage, both Apple and Microsoft have newly designed and perfected media players for you to choose from this season. And for the first time, Microsoft has a product that’s a close contender with the Apple iPod Touch 32 GB: the Microsoft Zune HD 32 GB.

Now you’re probably wondering why you should even consider a Microsoft toy when Apple has done such a great job with the iPod. For starters, Microsoft has actually taken pieces of Apple’s player and integrated a more Microsoft-esque interface, which allows you easier access to your music and movies than iPod does. In addition, the price is comparable as well. So here’s some of the best Zune HD features to help you determine if you should buy a Zune or buy an iPod Touch this year.

1. The beautiful touch screen: If you’d rather navigate using your fingers than a stylus or a cursor, the Zune HD is somewhat better than the iTouch, amazingly enough. Not only is navigation more intuitive, the graphics, movies, and album art are displayed more vividly on the Zune than on the iPod Touch.

2. Sleeker software compatibility: I don’t know about you, but using iTunes on a PC is almost a lost cause. You can’t just add and delete songs at will; you have to let it sync, back up, allow permissions, and a bunch of other annoyances.

But with the Microsoft Zune HD, you only need to use Zune 4.0 software, which is much more compatible with Microsoft operating systems and negates the need to install an Apple software on a PC, which always, always, always causes headaches.

3. Quickplay for Zune HD vs. iTunes navigation: It’s no fun to be limited to scrolling forever and ever through iPod interfaces when you can link to shortcuts for favorites and recently played media with the Zune HD.

This is a great option for those of us who don’t care to scroll all the way through an alphabetical listing on an iPod Touch. Not that this is a bad thing, it’s just more convenient on the Zune.

For those of you who are avid Apple iPod fans, you’re probably dying to try the newly released Apple iPod Touch in 32 GB or 64 GB. But for those of us who aren’t big fans of the Apple, there’s now a brand new popular competitor to the iTouch; it’s called the Microsoft Zune HD 32 GB.

Now, I’m not necessarily a big fan of Microsoft, either, but this new Zune HD is really a media player to consider. With its sleek interface, huge memory capacity, and PC-compatible software, it’s not hard to see why I’d rather buy a Zune than an Apple iPod Touch.

But how do you know if you should buy a Zune? Here’s some features you might consider when making your decision.

1. Touch screen beauty: When comparing the Zune HD with the Apple iPod Touch, I honestly think the Zune does a better job with graphics. Its HD quality just adds to the beauty of the already lovely screen display that’s brighter than the iTouch and easier to read.

2. The software: Apple insists you use iTunes software with every single update and sync you do with your iPod Touch. I don’t understand why it won’t just treat the iTouch like a drive, but it doesn’t. This is where Microsoft gets it right. For the Zune HD, they created a software that is PC-compatible (unlike iTunes) so your PC doesn’t turn into a slug and you can actually work with your Zune. What a concept!

3. Zune HD Quickplay navigation: I’m a Windows person. As much as I despise Microsoft itself, I like to subdivide my stuff into shortcuts and folders. With an iTouch, I can’t really do that. But with the Zune HD’s Quickplay technology, you can navigate to folders using shortcuts to your recently played items or most used tracks.

This beats out the iPod Touch in many ways, because with iPod, you only get so many application icons to choose from and that’s it. But with the Zune, you’re allowed to add shortcuts to your icons and navigate through without so much scrolling.

If you’re getting sick of your old Apple iPod Touch 8GB, you’ll be happy to hear that this fall’s new models have much more to offer you in terms of speed and new features. However, you won’t find cool upgrades only at Apple anymore. Microsoft just released its Zune HD 32 GB media player, which is a formidable competitor to the Apple iPod Touch like it never was before.

In comparing the two, I’ve found the Zune HD actually shines in more respects than the Apple iPod Touch does. Some of the features on the Zune HD aren’t available on the iPod, such as shortcuts to your favorite media and easier navigation. So how will you know if you should buy a Zune or an Apple iPod Touch?

1. The display: Zune HD’s OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen, which measures in 480 x 272 pixels for great widescreen movie viewing, is almost more pleasant to use visually than the Apple iPod Touch, or any other competing touch screen PMP. It’s brighter, clearer, and offers a better overall viewing experience.

2. The software: If you currently own an iPod item and have used it on a PC, you know how much of a nightmare it can be to add and remove media from your iPod. By the time iTunes finally finishes “doing its thing” with your toy, you could’ve taken a shower and eaten breakfast.

However, with the Microsoft Zune HD, you don’t need to use iTunes. Instead, you can use the Microsoft-compatible Zune 4.0 software and eliminate the whole sluggish business of iTunes altogether. This fact alone makes me like the Zune HD better than the iPod Touch.

3. Zune HD Navigation with Quickplay: Zune HD’s Quickplay lets you create shortcuts and cut through all that media you’re not so fond of and get right to the stuff you want to listen to and watch. With iPod interfaces, you really can’t do this, because you’re limited by the number of icons they allow.

This is just another way Microsoft integrates their user-friendly navigation into the Zune, and it works very well in this instance.

Are you sick of waiting for your iPod Touch 8 GB to respond to your commands? Well, it’s time to upgrade to a newer model. But this time, you might not want to purchase an Apple product. While Apple was upgrading its iTouch, Microsoft was perfecting the Zune HD, which for the first time in the history of Zune is now a viable contender to its Apple competition.

With sleek graphics and a very user-friendly interface, it’s not hard to see why the Zune HD 32 GB will likely outshine the Apple iPod Touch 32 GB this year. But should you buy a Zune HD instead of an Apple iPod Touch? Check out these cool features and decide for yourself.

1. The touch screen: Apple prides itself on having the best touch screen functionality, but with all due respect, the Zune HD does a better job. With 480 x 272 widescreen dimensions, a bright-as-day OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen, and crisp, clear graphics, the Zune HD brings home the goods in terms of display, which is everything when it comes to choosing just the right media player.

2. The software compatibility issue: One big thing that I hate about the Apple iPod Touch is the way you’re chained to using iTunes every time you want to update the darn thing. Not only does the software turn my PC into a slug (no, I don’t own a Mac), but it takes forever to sync, backup, and update.

But with the Zune HD, the software works much better with a PC (no surprise, seeing as it’s made by Microsoft), and it doesn’t turn itself into a processor hog. This one issue alone is sometimes enough to make me ditch the idea of an iPod altogether.

3. Navigating to your music and movies: I’m not real fond of the iTouch’s method of navigating to your music. Everything is dumped in one big pile, which doesn’t thrill me, and it takes forever to sift and sort through the lists to find the song I want to play.

But you might want to buy a Zune HD if you like the option of putting shortcuts on your media player. With Quickplay technology, the Zune lets you decide which playlists and media you want to get to quickly, without sorting through tons of lists.

This fall saw the debut of several upgrades to our favorite media players; from Apple, we get the newly updated Apple iPod Touch in 32 GB and 64 GB, while Microsoft deftly released the new Zune HD 32 GB media player. But this year, as opposed to Microsoft’s Zune suffering as the underdog, it is now a high contender with Apple’s similar products. And for those of us who aren’t necessarily sold on Apple products, this could be great news. But how will you know if you should buy a Zune instead of an Apple iTouch or Nano?

1. The Zune touch screen: Ever thought a Zune could outdo Apple graphics? Well, it can now that Microsoft has perfected its media player baby. This little-known fact about the Zune HD is something Apple no doubt tries to play down, but those of us who aren’t gung-ho for Apple know better.

2. Zune software vs. iTunes: If you’ve ever used anything but a Mac for your iPod Touch or other i-toy, you know how much of a royal pain it is to load iTunes and get it to obey your commands while it’s synching and backing up your media player. It’s a lost cause.

But with the Zune HD, you only need to use Zune 4.0 software, which allows you more control over your Zune and negates the need to install anything Apple on your computer. This is one of the best aspects of the Zune, in my opinion.

3. Zune navigation with Quickplay technology: Quickplay enables you to have more control over your favorites with the Zune HD, which is why you should buy a Zune HD over an iPod Touch if you’d rather have this kind of control rather than being limited by the icons on iPod.

I get tired of scrolling through multiple lists of my movies and music with iPod Touch, so the Zune HD is really a better option is this capacity.

You can learn more about the Zune HD at http://entertainmentelectronics.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-microsoft-zune-hd-better-features.html, which will also help you determine if you should buy a Zune or an iPod item for your personal needs and wants.

If you’re an avid fan of the Apple iPod Touch or similar products, you’re probably considering an upgrade to the newest models of the Apple iPod Touch, the 32 and 64 GB. But before you fork over that $300+, you might take a quick look at the Microsoft Zune HD. If you’re a PC user especially, chances are you’ll have better success with software compatibility if you buy a Zune.

Plus, there’s better graphics, user-friendly navigation, high-definition movie extendability with HDTV and XBOX 360, so it’s quite likely you’ll get more for your buck out of a Zune HD than an Apple iPod Touch.

1. Zune’s touch screen display: The Zune HD widescreen display comes with great 480 x 272 resolution, making it a great option for playing movies, browsing the internet in all its brilliance, and displaying album art while your music plays, in addition to viewing photos and short videos. It’s better than Apple in many respects, because the navigation with the screen makes it so much easier to access your media.

2. Zune software compatibility: If you’re not fond of being bound to iTunes for every little change you want to make on your media player, then the Zune HD is the player for you. It doesn’t require iTunes; instead, it uses its own software, which happens to be (surprise!) Microsoft compatible, unlike iTunes.

iTunes is simply too slow on a PC to be of much use. Plus, they’re always hocking their latest updates and apps, it’s hard to see the forest through the trees. The Zune software is more intuitive and attractive to use than iTunes is.

3. Zune Quickplay navigation features: Instead of scrolling all your life with an iPod Touch from Apple, Microsoft allows you to create shortcuts on your Zune HD, which eliminates the need to scroll to find your favorite media recent playlists, and best content.

This is great for finding your recently downloaded songs and movies, shows, and other things you’d like to bring to the forefront of your media player rather than search for ages for.

You can learn more about the Zune HD at http://entertainmentelectronics.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-microsoft-zune-hd-better-features.html, which will also help you determine if you should buy a Zune or an iPod item for your personal needs and wants.

While you check around for GPS devices for the road, you will likely find a few brands and quickly realize that you are confused about which device to purchase. This is really hard in cases where you are shopping for a device geared towards affordability and portability. The selection found in your local shopping center might not be extensive, which may lead you to shop on the web and endeavor to find better options. From there, you’ll be astounded at the amount of GPS manufacturers are actually out there. Navman GPS products are an example of the manufacturers that you aren’t likely to encounter regularly because they maintain no sales outlets in the US, but plenty in the the British Isles and Australia. Still, this company’s present collection of devices appears quite attractive. Another great model to consider is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 Portable GPS Navigator.

Navman F15

The Navman F15 appears to be the only Navman GPS unit that is for sale in the US and, naturally, US maps including Puerto Rico are pre-loaded. Even though the Navman F15 wouldn’t be considered a widescreen device, the 3.5′ touch screen combined with its simple construction make it a very user friendly product overall. Plugging in the device is quicker than many other GPS units, which usually require some fiddling just for the device to operate the way you need it to. Both of these characteristics clearly define the F15 as a comfortable device for drivers to learn about GPS navigation in general.

Unfortunately, the navigation capabilities in general may seriously annoy many people because it usually won’t be as accurate as many other American made GPS devices on the market. There will likely be some times when you seem to go around in circles, but you’ll hear some instances of this product doing a great job, so it may vary according to the destination you have chosen. The points of interest may include some popular restaurants and motels, but the amount of POI’s offered with Navman’s software are nowhere near the flood of information that more established GPS makers incude. The short battery life may be frustrating too, but may be a reasonable trade-off because this individual GPS unit won’t clean out your savings. Forgetting about the negatives, the Navman GPS continues to be worth the money due to its simple user interface and menus and its ease in calculating the fastest route and finding addresses.

Navman S35

The S35 has the same 3.5 inch screen as you’d get with the F15, and the frame looks rather attractive and it is still nicely portable. This is an Australian exclusive, offering over 500,000 points of interest on that continent and is provided with the text-to-speech function which accurately enunciates street names in an Australian accent. The S35 additionally comes with a mileage expense reporter will likely prove convenient for customers who need to manage gasoline costs more accurately. The latest maps of 2008 are also included.

Navman S45

The Navman S45 provides the same set of operations and aesthetics as the S35, although the screen is wider; measuring 4.3 inches. Despite the widescreen option, the S45 seems to be fairly portable. A comparable model is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 GPS Navigation System.

Navman GPS products are limited in their range of variety, but they all strive to be both portable yet also dependable. They met their expectations in keeping an attractive and portable design, but there’s room for improvements on the accuracy side.

Joseph Aaron is involved with an online project helping consumers make educated decisions on purchasing GPS Navigation Systems. Amongst the highest rated GPS units recommended on his website is the Garmin Nuvi 1200 Portable GPS Navigator.

Essentially, the new Magellan Maestro 4700 puts all your favorite places such as stores and cafes at your fingertips in order for you to access them with a level of convenience never before experienced. In order to satisfy consumer demands, the Maestro 4700 now includes twelve additional bookmarks which of course are able to store more than only POI’s (places of interest). In fact one can use this feature to bookmark all your common searches. Furthermore, with a 4.7 inch touch screen, larger fonts make viewing an absolute pleasure.

With Bluetooth technology continuously advancing, consumers now have huge expectations and as a result, the Maestro 4700 has ensured that Bluetooth calling is possible from a vast range of compatible phones. As long as your phone is within a few feet of the Maestro 4700, it can play back calls on its speakers. Furthermore, it can even place calls to various points of interest simply by using phone numbers which are associated with map data. In fact, the device is also able to access the internal address book of your mobile phone and because it incorporates “noise-canceling”, excessive road noise is virtually eliminated so as to ensure clearer calling.

Another noticeable feature included with this device, is traffic analysis. This feature has been included simply because radio reports are often inadequate for those on the move. By using its “predictive traffic analysis”, the Maestro 4700 is able to create routes in order to help you avoid traffic congestion. Unfortunately however, it appears that the Maestro 4700 is unable to receive traffic updates, a feature which is available on some other GPS devices.

Amazingly, the unit includes a “pedestrian mode” which in essence means that you no longer have to worry if you forget where you’ve parked your car. In fact, irrespective of how crowded a parking lot maybe, the device will lead you back to the exact place.

By using a standard data base as well as Magellan’s exclusive AAA Tour Book, access to points of interest is by all accounts exceptional in that all search results are organized into a handy tabbed format. Even searching for addresses or cities has been made that much easier due to a feature known as “QuickSpell”, which uses state of the art smart spell correction technology.

If by any chance you’re the sort of person who prefers landmarks rather than directions, then you’ll be pleased to know that the Maestro’s 3-D landmark view can provide you with additional context rather than only standard driving directions. Also, thanks to “touch zone technology”, drivers can also take advantage of a fully interactive context-sensitive map. A built in voice command feature makes speech based and hands free access to key commands possible. Text to speech capability allows the device to speak the names of streets and etcetera so that one doesn’t need to take one’s eyes off the road while driving.

Taking everything into consideration, one cannot argue that at a price of $299.99, the Magellan Maestro 4700 represents excellent value for money and as such, it’s an ideal addition to any traveler’s arsenal of tools. With its touch screen enhanced interface, AAA Tourbook, Bluetooth calling, and exceptional database, this is one device which is certainly worthy of a place on anyone’s dashboard.

Adrian Lewis is the foremost authority in GPS technology. He is offering a broad range of marine GPS that are cost effective. See Adrian today to learn more about the Magellan Maestro.

One of the most recent gadgets that had made it possible for everyone to have digital entertainment while on the go are the MP4 Players. MP4 players are portable media players that enable us to play digital content in the MP4 format.MP4 format, short for Moving Picture Expert Group- 4(MPEG-4) is the successor of the MP3 format. This multimedia format can contain both digital audio and video content unlike MP3 which is an audio compression format only.

MP4 players are relatively new products that have already captured the market and they are definitely here to stay. Not only can we listen to our favorite tunes and watch the best movies with these devices, they also allow us to do a lot more and get us addicted to them immediately. With these sleek and stylish devices we can even take pictures and view them instantly in their color LCD displays.

MP4 Players can be easily connected to computers, laptops and televisions. Some MP4 players also have touch screen and allow us to download e-books and record our own music. Inspite of this vast array of features, MP4 players are cheaper in comparison other media players. Most MP4 players also have the same look and feel of iPods and mobile phones. Many MP4 players also support file formats of other versions such as AMV, WMV, WAV and MPs of lower versions with exactly the same clarity.

TomTom Rider 2 is a first class GPS unit, to say the least. A car mount adapter can be purchased for use in a car. It has a lot of different and even innovative features, which are all explained in the manual that is in the unit itself (the inclusion of the manual directly in the unit is itself an innovative act, by the way). Overall, it’s an awesome GPS navigator unit that falls in the low price category, but still has almost every feature needed for an average biker.

Review:
The documentation is okay, as only the setup instructions are in it, the rest is in the unit itself. After you actually set up the unit, it’s easy sailing, as everything’s easy to understand and use, as the rest of the instructions are next to the actions and you can customize almost everything on the screen when the unit is set up. The best part of it is that you don’t have to carry a manual with you all the time, as you can just put the book that came with it away and use the unit to discover everything for you.

You can load your whole address book into the unit if your phone has Bluetooth support, it’s definitely really helpful. It also allows you to make hands-free calls if you have a headset. The device is water-proof (it’s made for bikes though, so it’s not a surprise), it acquires the GPS signal really fast, and has a long battery life. The screen has great graphics and an adjustable brightness. The sensitivity of the touch screen is also nice and can be connected to your computer for ultra-fast map download. It also allows Outlook to download your contact database and the voices of map directions are okay to choose. It lacks multimedia support, compared to other models, but you can get yourself an iPod for the money you saved if you chose TomTom Rider 2.

While there are newer models than the TomTom Rider 2 that are loaded with a lot of other features, the only feature missing from this GPS unit is the lack of spoken street names when navigating. There is one but – it makes you double check everything you see -, and double-checking is a thing you should always do, as you’re probably using it on a bike. It’d be hard to find a better alternative in terms of price, functionality and quality – and it’d be hard to find a better present for a hardcore biker – a portable, easy to install and use GPS unit with a built-in visor and a touch-screen that can be used with gloves.

At Portable GPS Reviews, you can find the lowest price on the TomTom Rider 2 GPS and read reviews of other GPS models.

Mobile phones already have every possible technology crammed into them. Cameras, GPS devices, Bluetooth networking, WiFi networking, slots for extra memory cards, touch screens, headphone jacks, even mini projectors. It has become a game of what can you do with it rather than what does it have inside. More and more of these things are getting built into more and more phones, but what isn’t following is the software. The software has mostly remained organised in the same, old-fashioned way, which is unsuitable for integrating all of these advanced possibilities with one another. Many phones still have a closed software system, with additional programs being hard to install and limited in interoperability. Even iPhone’s operating system is unable to transfer clipboard data between applications until version 3.0 which is due to get published soon. Other mobile producers don’t make it so easy to control the OS, and upgrade it, most don’t make it easy even to load in new programs.

What good are all the gadgets then, if they can only be used with the limited software that came with the device by most users? This is the field in which the next mobile phone market battle will be fought. The contestants are iPhone’s OS, Nokia’s Symbian, Palm’s new OS, Blackberry OS, the Windows Mobile OS and the new Google Android platform. Other mobile producers will have to choose from one of these products, as the market demands a software platform on non entry level mobiles more and more. Leading in achieving the goals of application power and interoperability are Google with their revolutionary Android OS, and Apple with their iPhone OS. Both companies developed their own solutions for browsing the Internet which are fast and highly useful, with Apple having already highly developed hardware with 3D possibilities, a touch screen and the software to use it, and Google leading with their operating system architecture, but still having a small choice of hardware in offer.

Nokia still has an operating system providing the most low level programming possibilities, enabling programmers to write emulators of other computing systems. Other producers will use their market positions to hide all the shortcomings of their systems and hope for the best, while those leading in innovation and offering new possibilities will lead the mobile phone into a new era of cheap devices which can do much more than before. And service providers will race to get exclusives with the new leaders in technology, as O2 has done with Apple iPhone. Mobile phones will become more than phones, computers and cameras, they will become an integrative centre for providing solutions to everything you think of.

The cell phone is certainly one device that many people are putting into their pockets these days. It is no longer just seen as a device for communicating but also as a tool for increasing productivity. Because of the constant changes in user expectations, the cell phone is continuously advancing and expanding its role beyond its initial function of making and receiving calls.

Cell phones have in recent years been transformed into mini-computers dubbed “the smartphone”. For example, in 2008 for which data was available, out of the 1 billion camera phones shipped, smartphones which currently represent the high-end of the cell phone market, made up about 10% of the market or about 100 million units. Current smartphone brands on the market include BlackBerry, iPhone, Palm, Nokia and Samsung. These products are an- Internet-connected multimedia devices with a multi-touch screen or a sliding keyboard. Smartphones are designed to function as a camera phone, portable media player, and with internet connectability: with text messaging, email, web browsing and local Wi-Fi connectivity.

Interestingly, the rise in sales of smartphones will come at the expense of declining cell phone sales, currently 90% of the market. The rapid growth of the market for smartphone has everything to do with the technology as it has to do with the consumer. The smartphone- basically a pocket computer with cell phone capability-allows people to carry information and to access it everywhere they go. Just as portable lap top computers permitted desk-top users freedom of mobility, the smartphone allows its users the function of a desk-top PC with the portability of a laptop, and the utility of a cell phone.

In this severe economic down turn, where penny-pinching is commonplace, it is only reasonable that many people will turn away from luxury consumer items such as a smartphone purchase. Rather, more and more people are opening up their wallets to smartphones. To be sure, the sales of iPhones, Blackberrys and other smartphone models are rising rapidly. It is projected that growth will increase 25% this year alone. Other widely anticipated new models have been launched recently, and some are slated to go on sale nationwide this year. The launching of newer smartphone brands will help to further popularize these devices and fuel their growth.

For a growing segment of the population, the social expectation is that one must stay connected and be reachable almost instantly by voice or email. The smartphone gives people that dual ability to stay connected, and therefore they can justify the cost of buying a smartphone. Smartphones are also seen as a status symbol. Just as it became socially unacceptable in the late 1990s not to have an email address, it will become increasingly unforgivable in the next several years not to communicate via smartphone.

The growth in demand for smartphones is largely due to the fact that they are seen as productivity tools in a society that is highly mobile. Indeed smartphones were introduced to address a given market segment. For instance, the Blackberry smartphone when intially launched focused on the clientele in the corporate world. Interestingly, it was the introduction of less business-oriented phones first by Blackberry that scored a hit with the general public and led to the widespread use of Blackberry which doubled its customer base from last year to 25 million. The smartphone wave is continuing to gain momentum, and although sales are rising fast, smart phone sales still account for only 25% of the total cell phone shipments this year in the US. However, with the launching of new smartphones coupled with software offerings from RIM (makers of Blackberry), Nokia, Apple, Microsoft, Google and others this year, smartphones are poised to gain a greater market share of the cell phone industry.

Currently, smartphones are not cheap by any long shot. The handsets even with discounts from the wireless carriers typically cost a few hundred dollars, with the high-end going for several hundreds of dollars. Their data and calling service plans are typically up to a hundred dollars per month. One of the keys to lowering prices in the long-term is the breeding of vigorous competition among the brands. But considering that the market for smartphones is large, new entrants may find it expedient to identify a niche in the market rather than compete with the more established brands. However, the best avenue to making smart phones affordable to consumers is through innovation in smartphone technology that allows users to call and to connect to the internet no matter where they are at very reasonable cost.

It cannot be denied that even regular cell phones are getting smarter, and it’s only a matter of time before all cell phones have the advanced levels of functionality associated with today’s smartphones.

"How do I use one monitor for two computers?"
If your monitor has a switch to control inputs DVI / VGA and you will be able to connect each computer to one of those inputs. You may need to buy a 2-Port KVM with Integrated Cableswhich lets you use 1 keyboard, 1 monitor and 1 mouse on 2 computers.
