Under dynamic disk storage, a single partition is involved which covers the entire hard disk, while the disk is divided into number of volumes. A dynamic disk may hold spanned volumes, mirrored volumes, simple volumes, striped volumes and RAID 5 volumes. On the other hand, basic disks use general partition tables and hold basic volumes like extended partitions, primary partitions and logical drives.
