Meet Barbie®: the world’s famous doll in the fashion toy world!

Barbie have become the star of the fashion world of dolls for almost 50 years since Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie gave her debut. But how did Barbie have managed her career as the world’s most popular doll?
You might think that you are too old to know about Barbie®, but Barbie®, had become part of every woman’s life since her debut in in 1959, and like any living Artists or Stars, any issues and gossips about her would surely intrigue anyone.

Who is Barbie® anyway?

Barbie’s whole name is is Barbara Millicent Roberts. In the 1960s, her parents’ names are given as George and Margaret Roberts from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin. Barbie attended Willows High School and Manhattan International High School in New York City, based on the real-life Stuyvesant High School. She has romantic relationship with her man Ken (Ken Carson), who first appeared in 1961.

The Fame

Uniquely, not only the movie stars and politicians who can be a cultural icon. Almost unambiguously for a toy fashion doll, Barbie has become a cultural icon and has been given honors that are rare in the toy world. In 1974 a section of Times Square in New York City was renamed Barbie Boulevard for a week, while in 1985 the artist Andy Warhol created a painting of Barbie.

Almost 50 years of giving happiness to kids!

Not only Barbie has been popular among kids because of her long hair and fashionista life, but Barbie have also a series of product lines for her avid fans. From notebooks, pencils, bags, t-shirts and shoes, you can show how you love Barbie by having one of these. Mattel even released a collector’s edition, for those who have been young ones and continue to love Barbie, in the late years.
Recently, Barbie faced an ultimate trial of her life when MGA Entertainment launched the Bratz range of dolls in 2001, an act that would give Barbie her first serious rivalry in the fashion doll market. The 2004 sales figures implies that Barbie and the Bratz are having a stiff competition in winning the hearts of girls in the world.

The continuous struggle

The creation of Barbie by Mattels have become part of the living tradition such that you can make a genuine smile from an innocent child of having to own a Barbie® doll. And despite heavy competition and court struggles ( Mattels is suing MGA Entertainment of Bratz for copyright infringement), Barbie will continue to win the hearts of every girl not only in the United Kingdom but the world.

Barbie games, Matchbox cars and other toys have seen some dramatic changes over the years.

Ever wonder what happens to the toys we left behind? Those with children of their own are able to revisit the latest versions of old favorites, but for those who haven’t had an excuse to check out Etch-E-Sketch 2.0, here’s a breakdown.

Realistic Barbie
Doctor, lawyer and killer flight attendant, Barbie has done it all in three inch heels and tiny skirts. But now, after almost fifty years of controversy, Barbie has developed a new, thicker look. The original Barbie was designed on a scale of 1/6. This means the real life Barbie would have been 5’9.” The proportions of Barbie, however, were entirely unrealistic. She would have had a 36 inch bust and 18 inch waist. Her original weight of 110 pounds would make her at least 35 pounds underweight for her height.

But after years of concern and scorn about Barbie promoting unhealthy body images and unrealistic standards for the young women who played with the many versions of the doll, Barbie is a new woman. In 2000, Barbie gained a belly button and a wider waistline. Her waist also moved up into a more natural position, ostensibly to make more modern fashions fit more appropriately, but some wonder if the changes are a long overdue response to criticism. Waistlines aside, Barbie games are still intensely popular with girls of all ages, and Barbie games have also gone online where they are reaching even more enthusiastic fans.

LITE-BRITE Flat Screen
Like the flat screen in your living room? Modern flat screen technology has a broad reach and now you can enjoy flat screen technology while you play with your LITE-BRITE. Decades ago, LITE-BRITE took tiny colored pegs and backlit the designs you created through black paper with a standard light bulb. The set-up was large, bulky, but good for hours of fun.

Today, you can use a boxy set-up or the new flat screen. If you opt for the box, you now have four sides to choose from. Gone is the console style backing in place of a newly designed lit cube ready for your latest and greatest designs – four at once, that is. Or keep things compact, but opting for the flat LITE-BRITE instead. While it might not be HD, it’s definitely a step up from what we had a short generation ago.

Matchbox Cars
You might have played with Hot Wheels or Matchbox, but the style of cars was the same. Tiny metal cars to collect, bury in the sandbox and leave painfully underfoot have been enjoyed be generations of vehicle enthusiasts. Today, the basics are the same, but the styles and accessories have been very updated. Naturally, the cars produced today are indicative of the available auto lines produced the world over.

But in addition to that, children paying with Matchbox cars have much more to do with their cars than we did a generation ago. If we were lucky, we were able to secure a track and possibly a ramp for our cars. All sound effects and aerial acrobatics were performed by the driver – you. Today, you can buy the basic die cast cars or you can branch out and buy the ones that make noise, play inspiring music, or run on their own. Accessories for the cars include elaborate cities, race tracks, and parks where cars can be levered or moved without your assistance. While most of the Matchbox cars remain true to the classic nature of the toy, if you want a digital micro-car experience, it is readily available.

Barbie is arguably one of the most popular dolls for girls growing up today. This charismatic little figurine has shown that it is perfectly possible for girls to become astronaut doctors who occasionally pick up work as a flight attendant. I guess that’s how you pay for all those dream homes. The point is that Barbie has and will always be a strong figure for girls. They will grow up playing with Barbie dolls and their new tastes will probably cause a desire for the plethora of other Barbie paraphernalia that floods the market.

This is what I’ve always had a problem with when it comes to toys. There is always more things to buy. You can never just buy one set and be the hero. You are constantly pressured to buy the car to go with the house. Then you need the movie about the road trip. Then you need the game about the drive home. It turns into one insane chain of “if you give a mouse a cookie.” You are constantly buying more and more things to keep your daughter happy. This will quickly make you the nice parent with the empty wallet. You are going to have to adapt a bit if you want your girl to have fun with their favorite character without a big expense on your part.

I am talking about the greatest gift we’ve ever received from the demigod Al Gore. The Internet has grown and flourished to provide an environment for entertainment that is unmatched. The online arcade in particular rises as one of the best forms of entertainment. It grants you all the fun of video games without pouring on the blemish of a high price tag. In fact just about every online arcade will be able to give you Barbie games at the astonishing cost of zero dollars.

I may just have to explain this a bit further. There are many online arcades that are actually dedicated to providing games for girls. This means that they’ll be able to happily browse for new Barbie games without even leaving the site. You now have the best of both worlds. They have an amazing variety of games at their disposal but none of them cost anything. If you bought a retail video game you’d receive one longer game that locked them into one activity. If they like it, good. If they don’t, then they’re going to be awfully bored awfully fast and want something more.

I guess that’s the last point that I want to drive home. You aren’t just doing this to be cheap. The beauty of an arcade is that they can take little samples of a whole bunch of games. If they get bored then can switch to an entirely different game with about 3 clicks. You are effectively getting one great package of games for free. All of this comes from just taking the short bit of time to show your daughter how to really enjoy the many games that are available for girls. They are out there and they don’t all cost an arm and a leg.

If your monitor has a switch to control inputs DVI / VGA and you will be able to connect each computer to one of those inputs. You may need to buy a 2-Port KVM with Integrated Cableswhich lets you use 1 keyboard, 1 monitor and 1 mouse on 2 computers.
