Using the Internet with dial-up service can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. If you are looking for more ways to speed up your Internet without paying a large monthly fee for a faster Internet connection, look no further. Follow these simple steps to get maximum performance from your machine.

1. Save time with email. Find the Outlook Express (may be called Windows Mail if you have a new computer) or Microsoft Outlook on your computer and set up a new mail account for your email address. You will be able to download all of your messages in one easy step. Then, when you are offline, you can browse through your emails, read them, and create replies to them. All you have to do is send out the messages the next time you connect! This save you time you would have to wait for each individual page to load when viewing, replying to, and deleting messages. You can do all of that from offline!

2. Clean up your computer! Sometimes your Internet is running slow because your computer is bogged down with multiple unnecessary programs and files that have been downloaded and added to your computer over time. From your Control Panel, click on Add/Remove Programs (or Programs and Features on new computers), and a list of installed programs will appear on your screen. Now you can uninstall any program you don’t need anymore. Here’s a few things to keep in mind:

* You only need one firewall program and one antivirus program. Uninstall any extra spyware, adware, antivirus, scanner, robots, protectors, and malware programs you don’t use as your primary protection. These programs probably seemed great at the time you downloaded them, but these programs will only conflict with one another.

* Uninstall any messenger, weather, toolbars, and pop-up blockers that you don’t use. Some of these handy-dandy shortcuts not only take up space on your hard drive, but are set up to load themselves when you turn on the computer, and to gather updates when you connect to the Internet. When you’re trying to get to your bank site to make a quick payment, the last thing you want to do is wait for five programs to load themselves and hog bandwidth!

*If there’s a program that you don’t recognize, you better leave it alone. It probably a driver or system update that is necessary for your computer to run properly.

3. Clear out your temporary Internet files. From your Internet browser, click Tools, then Internet Options. On the General tab, click Delete. You will be taken to a page listing several categories of files that you can delete. While these files are helpful for Internet browsing, if there are too many of them stored on your computer, your browser may struggle to load pages completely or very slowly because it has become bogged down with unnecessary files and information collected from websites. Many of these website could be ones you will never visit again, so there is no reason to keep piles of files, cookies, and history for them.

4. Check with your ISP for ways to get your Internet service working faster. They may be able to offer you other access numbers that are not as heavily used or from a more reliable network. Write down as many as you can for your area and experiment with different numbers to get one that works the best. This may change over time so keep those numbers nearby. Your ISP technicians may also be able to help you adjust your modem settings or recommend software or upgrades that you can install to get the best service you can.

5. Check with your local technician. Many times a sluggish and malfunctioning Internet is because of malware or viruses that have been downloaded on the computer. If this is the case, you may need to get a tuneup from a computer technician. He may also be able to increase your Internet connection by recommending browsers, software, or accelerators that will improve your connection speed. Also, your computer service technician can check for programs that are using your bandwidth and eliminate or restrict them so that they are not using the Internet connection unless you want them to.

Internet access is available as little as for $6.95 a month in the US and Canada. Sign up online or call 1-800-456-3118.

There are many online storage providers to choose from out there. Therefore you will want to be precautious. Immediately you will notice that comparing data backup providers can be tricky. You will notice that your requirements may not be met by some of these online storage services. Do not be discouraged however; there will be an online storage provider that will meet your requirements. To decide on the best online storage provider, follow these 6 hints when you are comparing your online backup choices.

1. Use online storage reviews.

Online storage reviews are available for you to compare online storage services without you squandering your precious time, energy, and more importantly your money. Online storage reviews summarize and display all the significant features of every online storage service in such a way that is as easy to understand and compare online storage providers.

2. Compare data backup services on their interface.

The interface, typically an Internet-based control panel, is the instrument you will be working with in setting up, conducting, and retrieving online storage. Therefore it should better be something you are capable using quickly and easily. By checking online storage reviews or visiting the site for a demo (assuming one is available) of any of their interfaces you can acquaint yourself with the control panel that you might use if you select one online storage provider over another. Compare data backup interfaces mainly for how easy they are to use, not only to see how easy it is to learn and use, but also to see how the button layout accommodates you.

3. Compare data backup services on their online storage storage allotments.

Most online storage websites you check when you compare data backup providers offer different rates and plans for different amounts (normally measured in gigabytes) of information you require to back up. Several providers are capable or willing to offer unlimited online storage. While this seems useful it may or may not suit your needs. Unlimited online storage can be too much for some, particularly when there is a plan that is far more appropriate to their needs at a lower rate. However for some there no available ‘limited’ plans that can accommodate for their excessive online storage needs other than an unlimited backup plan. The smart thing to do here is to calculate your own online storage requirements before you compare data backup services (also calculate how much you will need in the future). Remember, there is no need to pay more for online storage than you have to.

4. Compare data backup services for the file types they support.

It can be imperative that any online storage service provider you consider supports all file types that you may want to have backed up. If you are backing up simple .DOC, .TXT, .RTF, .PDF files and other common documents, you will be covered by the majority of providers. However, if you need your online storage to accommodate unusual or more complex computer files, it is vital to make certain, that when you compare data backup services you only select a provider that has the capabilities to upload and store every file type you use.

5. Compare data backup services on their quality of customer support.

For sensitive online services like this – customer service is everything. It would be careless to join an online storage provider and spend your money just to lose your data. Therefore you must inquire into their quality of customer service. Does the provider have limited service hours? Can they offer support at any time or are business hours your only opportunity? Does time zone affect their availability if they only have business hours? Can you get help via the phone, email or online chat? Is there an online self-help section? Can you talk to a real person if you can talk to them over the phone? Is there a toll fee for phone support? Are responses through online chat or email automated or considered by real people? How long do you have to wait for a response? What will you have to do to get the online storage help you need? Each of these questions is important to ask when you compare data backup providers.

6. Look for a free trial or a money-back guarantee.

As a final point, you do not have to necessarily rely only on what you learn at online storage review sites to make your selection. At Online-Backup-Ratings.ca you will see that many online storage companies have various kinds of free trials of their services or offer a money-back guarantee for the first few months. This way you can experience their services yourself without losing any money.

Online-Backup-Ratings.ca offers helpful ratings of all today’s top online storage services. Learn how to compare data backup providers so you can save money, time and worries. Visit Online-Backup-Ratings.ca for great articles, resources and expert reviews!

Driving past exclusive villages and subdivisions, you can always see burglar alarms in the homes of rich people, in its early days, burglar alarm systems were considerably expensive and could only be afforded by this palatial homes. But today, it has become affordable and you will be able to see it even in the common houses.

People are now aware of the burglar alarm system’s advantages and more and more of them tend to invest on it. These alarms, be it wireless or wired gives off an alarm whenever a burglar attempts to get into the house.

Burglar alarms can be classified into types, the open and close circuit:

The system of open circuit sounds an alarm when the circuit shuts. The circuit is instantly completed whenever the door or window opened, and then the alarm is set off.

The close circuit on the other hand, functions ironically. The circuit is completely broken when the door or window has been opened, sounding the alarm.

Motion sensors are another sophisticated option. Through this, any kind of movement that occurs can be detected in a definite radius from the sensors. The moment it has detected any movement, it will immediately transmit a signal directly to the control panel, this serves as the brain of the system that analyzes the movement, and measures if it can be considered to be suspicious.

Now, if the control panel processed that the movements are suspicious, it will respond to the manner of your set up. Then, it will directly set off the alarm or will call for the authorities needed.

You can also adjust the motion sensors. The motion it perceives can be adjusted, for instance, you have a pet in the house that usually roams around or there is an activity that is commonly occurring inside, these will not indicate that there is a burglary.

Today, motion sensors becomes more usual as alarms for protection and security, so purchase one for your home, the thought alone that you have a credible security will give you peace of mind in night or when there is no one left at home.

But it will be better if you are planning to set up a burglar alarm that you just don’t purchase motion sensors; you also include magnetic switches. As the motion sensors monitor the large rooms, the magnetic switch will guard the doors and windows. The combination of these two will result to greater security in your home.

Investing in a burglary system is always a smart move. As what have been mentioned earlier, the burglar alarm system nowadays will not be that heavy in your purse.

Burglar alarm system are already proliferating in the market, you can purchase it even in stores in your area. There are already a number of retailers of burglar alarms that you don’t need to worry where to purchase it including the amount that it will cost you.

These retailers can be found in department stores or in online shops; you can also find them in the strip malls or retail parks. Through these retailers the burglar alarm system becomes more accessible and is more exposed to potential buyers.

Likewise, don’t worry about their pricing. These retailers only employ the cost-plus pricing wherein they only add a small price to gain their profit. The other systems for their pricing are the suggested retail price and the recommended retail price; these systems do not require a heavy amount on the part of the consumers.

Through these retailers you will also know the other types of burglar alarms that you would want to place in your house.

Many decisions have to be made in regard to whether or not you want to provide a home security system for your home. As in any situation, it is best to make informed decisions. One concern for many homeowners (or even renters) considering a security system is installation. Many people assume that installation is an insurmountable obstacle, both from an ability vantage point as well as cost.

To begin with, a hard-wired security system obviously involves a very involved installation process. No question that the best time for installing this type of system is during the construction process. The necessary wiring can be run along with the electrical and plumbing systems so as to be hidden within the walls.

That is not to say a hard-wired system is impossible within an already existing home. Just be aware that it is a much more difficult and labor-intensive (and expensive) process.

Most often, a hard-wired installation is carried out by a professional. Skilled do-it-yourselfers certainly can tackle this installation, but not everyone has those skills, though.

With the advent of wireless technology, many of the installation obstacles have vanished, or nearly so. The ability to follow directions may be the greatest skill needed to install a wireless system.

The most basic security system would involve little more than a door alarm and control unit and could be installed in a matter of minutes. The more sensors (door, window, motion detectors) added the more involved the process becomes, but is still quite manageable.

It would be very wise, before purchasing a security system, to spend time thinking through and planning the system you would like to have. At what points do you want door and/or window sensors? Do you want a motion detector (or two) as well? Where will the control panel be installed? The answers to these questions will then become the plan for installation after the system is purchased.

Even in home security, wireless is all the rage. Learn more about it, and so much more for your home security solutions, visit www.SecurityForMyHome.com.

ComboFix can be used to delete even the most persistent malware. Here are some guidelines to help you run the software correctly. Remember, this program should only be activated if the helpers ask for it.

Preparing the Computer

Shut down all open windows and programs. If you have any spyware or antivirus program, turn them off. Firewalls must also be disabled. If you are on a network, you may need clearance from the manager. Check the user guide of those programs on how to turn them off.

Using the Program

After closing all open applications, double click the ComboFix icon. You will see a Windows File Open Security prompt. Don’t panic. What this OS is saying is that the app doesn’t possess a digital signature. Ignore the message and click run. For Windows Vista users, click continue.

Next you’ll see the sites where the software can be downloaded. Click OK. Next is the disclaimer button. Read it and press yes to continue. You’ll see the program make a System Restore Point.

System Restore

The System Restore Point is a Windows built in feature. The OS (in this case, the ComboFix software) marks the original settings. In case something goes wrong, it will return the OS to this point. You can also make System Restore Points in the Control Panel.
The Registry and Recovery Console

The program will also back up your Registry files. The Registry contains important system files. Next it will set up the Windows Recovery Console. If it’s already in the system, this step will be
skipped.

Note: if an error message appears saying the Recovery Console can’t be created, just click to continue. You can make the Recovery Console after scanning is finished.

Scanning the PC

Before ComboFix starts, disconnect from the Net. If you don’t, the program will do it for you. After scanning it’ll try to reconnect again.

Scanning may take some time, so take a break. Don’t be surprised if the clock format is altered. It’s part of the process. There will also be a message box updating you of the proceedings.
Note: don’t click anything when the scan is being run.

After Scanning

A report will be generated. Don’t worry if the desktop vanishes. Once the report is made, it will come back. The clock format will also return to normal after scanning. The program will shut down. Paste this log into the helper. It will explain to you what to do next.

Avoiding Malware and Spyware

Only download from reputable websites. Hackers use software to store viruses and malware. It’s also a good idea to avoid opening .exe files in emails. These might contain spyware.

It also helps if you keep yourself updated on the facts. Read the latest tech news. They will help you get info on the latest spyware / malware threats. Knowing the symptoms is very important.

With your helper, ComboFix can be used to eliminate most malware and spyware. Used correctly, it can be a powerful addition to your computer.

Do you want to make your computer faster and more responsive? Do you want to fix it quickly? Well then listen up! I’m about to tell you how.

Easy Slow Computer Solutions

Step 1: This is probably the easiest of them all; uninstall unnecessary programs. To do this you will want to head to the “Start” or Windows button on your bottom left, then click on “Control Panel” on the right hand side of the window that comes up, and finally click on “Add/Remove Programs” It is here that you will be able to uninstall any unwanted programs. The programs that should be up for consideration for uninstalling would be programs that you either don’t need or rarely use. This is the best place to start for Slow Computer Solutions, if you still seem to be having problems go on to Step 2.

Step 2: If there was any tool that I would recommend that would guarantee your computer to run faster would be a tool called Registry Easy. It is truly phenomenal, it will scan your computer for any malfunctions or anything that is causing it to perform slow and then it will fix them. This alone can increase the speed of your computer up to 3 times. After it scans your computer it will optimize it, meaning that any settings that will increase your computers performance it will fix! This tool alone is probably one of the best Slow Computer Solutions there is.

Step 3: Finally, you can always hire a computer technician. I would only do this if Step 1 and 2 don’t work. The only time I would recommend to hire one would be if you have computer errors or virus’ that Registry Easy couldn’t solve.

How To Avoid A Computer Slow Down

Avoiding these ‘Slow Downs’ can be actually very simple. Firstly always pay attention to what sites you visit, what you install, and what you accept! This alone will stop 50% of the slowdowns. The problem is, when you go to a site that contains malicious content it is certain that it will attempt to get your computer. This is then where accepting comes into play. DO NOT accept random things on sites you don’t know! If you stick to these rules of thumb you’ll be able to stay away from my Slow Computer Solutions article because you won’t have a slow computer!

Do you want to find out how everyone else is keeping their computer at its top possible speed? Check out my blog for tips and solutions! http://www.decimatels.com/

So you went and thought it would be a good idea to open the control panel and start messing around with stuff, did you? Didn’t feel like waiting to shut down your computer the RIGHT way, did you? You just pulled the plug. Or pressed the button. Silly rabbit…

You didn’t pay any attention to the fact that you might lose some of all your precious computer information. No! Who cares about that, right? That’s what we have nerds for!

But now you’re sad because your super awesome new laptop computer has been reduced to a big ugly paperweight. Oh, if only there was some way to retreive your hard drive data! I’ll tell you how, don’t worry.

Problems like this are usually caused by the power going out. It goes out and your stupid file system didn’t get stored like it needed to. Or maybe you have a problem with your hardware or drivers. Or maybe your stupid computer just crashed and you don’t know why. They all have the same result: the file system didn’t cross the T’s and dot the I’s. Imagine an olympic gymnast freezing in mid-air and instead of landing gracefully, falls on his head. SPLAT.

And like the gymnast, when your computer falls on its head, its going to get all messed up. It might start acting strangely, such as powering up and shutting down. It may forget things that it once knew, like how to feed itself and tie its shoes. Like a human deprived of oxygen for too long, your computer could have brain damage, making it difficult for it to communicate with the hard disk and retrieve the data necessary to operate properly.

There’s some neat programs out there to fix these problems and your computer probably comes with at least one. I’ve listed them below because I’m cool like that.

Linux – FSCK
Mac – Disk Utility
Windows – CHKDSK

Run these programs to see if you have logical damage to your computer. If you’re not getting anything, chances are you have some physical damage that’s masquerading as logical damage.

If you’re like me, you live on your computer. Facebook, Myspace, email, and sending out my resume to different places is how I spent most of my time. On the computer, that is. But what do you do if your computer crashes? Or if you accidentally delete some important files?

I remember when I was a kid, we only had one computer in the house. My mom, for some reason, loved opening the control panel and messing with the system settings. I would always yell at her and tell her not to but she wouldn’t stop. Our computer ALWAYS had problems. And this was before there was so much porn, so I don’t want to hear it!

Anyway, not like my crappy Performa 550 could have supported it anyway, but I would have KILLED for a free data recovery program. These things will let you restore old files that you deleted or got lost in a crash or that your dog ate. I remember when I heard that you could use Norton to get back files that you deleted from the recycle bin. I almost creamed my pants.

Seriously though, there are a lot of great free data recovery programs out there. Recurva is one. Its old school, but does the trick. You can get another one from dtidata.com. They have something called RAID Freeware data recovery software. Just go to the site, download it and you’re all set!

They’ve also got some other neat freeware programs on the site specially designed for data recovery along with a troubleshooter. And of course they’ve got some programs that you can pay for too, but who wants to do that?

Oh! Forgot to mention that on dtidata’s site, they’ve also got a troubleshooter and Quick Start Guides. So before you know it you’ll be restoring all the porn you deleted in no time…I mean, errr…

As with every version of Windows before it, Windows Vista comes with more features, more software, and more eye candy than any of its predecessors. All of these features come with a price – much higher system overhead. This means that a Vista computer has to come from the factory with more processing power and more RAM than a comparable XP computer. This also means that it’s just as easy for a Vista system to become bogged down as it has been with the older systems. Below are 7 tips that will help you maximize your Vista system’s performance.

- Too Many Features. Windows Vista was designed to address not only the most common uses of a computer, but also many less-common uses. This means that the operating system by default includes lots of pieces which you might never need. Many of these pieces run as processes in the background – the whole time your computer is running. One of the easiest ways to speed up Windows Vista is to scan through these processes and disable any you’ll never need. To find a list of these Windows features and to enable or disable them, go to your Control Panel, change to “Classic View,” choose “Program Features,” then click on “Turn Windows Features On and Off.” Use common sense when disabling a feature, but remember that you can always turn a feature back on if you find you need it.

- Too Much Eye Candy. Another way to speed up a slow Windows Vista computer is to turn off some of the fancy graphics options. While they look “cool,” features such as the Vista Aero use a lot of system resources and they really aren’t needed. To trade speed for aesthetics, go to your Start menu, then go to “Run.” Type in ’systempropertiesperformance” and press “Enter.” Click on the Visual Effects tab then uncheck “animate windows when minimizing and maximizing.” That will turn off one of the eye candy features. There are other features you can turn off or on at the same tab. Again, try them out to see if they will boost your computer’s speed.

- Where’s the file? Windows Indexing Service was meant to help speed up the search for files on your computer. Unfortunately, this software isn’t very effecient, and as hard drive sizes have increased, this process takes over more and more resources. A far better and leaner option is to use Google Desktop to index and search for files. To disable Windows Indexing, Click on Start, then Computer, then right-click on your “C:” drive and select “Properties.” Click on the “General” tab and uncheck “Index this drive for faster searching.” On the next screen, choose “Include subfolders and files.” This will turn off indexing for the C: drive. Follow the same steps for your other hard drives (if any).

- No More Spyware. Spyware and viruses are notorious for quickly taking over a system’s resources. In fact, one of the symptoms of being infected is a drastic system slowdown. Of course, not only can these programs slow down your system, they also put your private information at great risk – some of these programs have been designed to steal credit card information, for example. The best way to protect yourself is to install and use software designed for this task. While Norton might be well-known, there are free options such as Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware or even Zone Alarm for firewall protection. Before installing any Spyware protection tools, make sure it isn’t spyware itself – just do a basic Google search.

- Control Your Startup. By default Windows Vista starts several programs that run in the background. Many of these aren’t needed by most users and can be safely turned off. To do this, go to your Start menu, then go to “Run.” Type in “msconfig” then press “Enter.” Under the Startup tab, deselect any items that you don’t wish to have run each time your system is restarted, then click “OK.” You’ll have to reboot, and when your system comes up next you’ll see a pop-up explaining the change.

- Fragmentation is Bad. Although Windows Vista does not include a tool to defrag your hard drive, fragmentation still happens. Download and install a tool to defrag your hard drive and run that tool every 6 months at a minimum. One such free tool is called Defraggler.

- Clean the Registry. Over time, odd pieces of old programs can be left in the registry. The more of these unused pieces you have, the larger your registry. The Registry is loaded when Windows Vista starts, so it makes sense to have the leanest possible registry. There are several free tools that you can download to clean your registry. Be aware that just as with the spyware programs, there is the potential of some of these being disguised spyware programs themselves. Make sure you do a Google search before installing any of these programs. Even with the risk, it’s important to make sure your registry is clean.

Want to speed up TOR and make TOR and privoxy run faster? The TOR network is a free proxy solution if you don’t care too much about the low level of anonymity it offers, but the main problem is that many times TOR is slow and pages don’t load. This is due to the way the TOR network is setup, the speed of any connection you get through TOR will always be slower than elite proxies, but there are a few things you can do to try and make TOR run a little faster.

First, make sure you have the Vidalia bundled installed. Then, open up the Vidalia control panel from your task bar. With the control panel open, click on settings to open up the settings window. Then click on the advanced button and find the directory where your Tor configuration file is stored. Find that directory on your computer and open up the file called torrc. With the torrc config file open, copy and paste the following into the file:

# Try for at most NUM seconds when building circuits. If the circuit isn’t
# open in that time, give up on it. (Default: 1 minute.)
CircuitBuildTimeout 5
# Send a padding cell every N seconds to keep firewalls from closing our
# connections while Tor is not in use.
KeepalivePeriod 60
# Force Tor to consider whether to build a new circuit every NUM seconds.
NewCircuitPeriod 15
# How many entry guards should we keep at a time?
NumEntryGuards 8

With that done, save the file and go back to the Vidalia control panel. Stop and start Tor, this will load the changes you just made to the torrc file. The above changes should help speed up your TOR connections a little.

If you are serious about hiding your IP and being anonymous online, free proxies like TOR won’t work. They pale in comparison to the level of security and anonymity that elite proxies provide.

Setting up your own Elite Proxy is super easy. Use it as a Craigslist Proxy with your Craigslist PVA.

Years ago, home burglar alarms were only found with rich homes. These days however, the prices have dropped and they are becoming more common with homes of average folk. A lot of people who invest in burglar systems go for the do it yourself systems. They can be wired or wireless, setting off an alarm when an intruder attempts to break in or when they are moving around inside of your house.

With home burglar alarms, there are two types – open and closed circuit. Open circuit systems work by setting off an alarm when the circuit closes. When a window or a door is opened, the circuit is immediately completed and the alarm goes off. Closed circuit systems work the opposite way. When a window or door is opened, the circuit is broken – also setting off the alarm.

Another, more sophisticated option, are motion sensors. Motion sensors sense any type of motion within a certain radius to the sensor. Once it has sensed any motion, it sends a signal out to the control panel that will analyze it and see if the movement is considered suspicious. If the movement is indeed considered suspicious, it will react to the way you have it set up and inform the proper authorities or sound the alarm.

Motion sensors can also be adjusted as well. You can adjust them for things such as pets walking around or any other activity that is common with your home that wouldn’t signify a burglary taking place. Motion sensor alarms are very common these days, and one of the best ways to keep your home safe from a burglar – and give you peace of mind in knowing that you are protected.

Normally, it’s a good idea to use motion sensors and magnetic switches with your burglar alarm setup. Magnetic switches will protect doors and windows while the motion sensors will help to protect larger rooms, such as living rooms and hallways. The combination of the two is never a bad idea – and will go a long way in protecting your home.

Another available option that you have is a security camera. Video cameras are also common these days, and can be mounted in very strategic areas throughout the parameter of your home. They will pick up images in the area they are mounted, which will be displayed on the monitor. You can also record the video to a videotape as well, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to keep track of the information that the camera picks up.

You can also get a burglar system from a home security company as well. Most companies monitor their systems remotely, and always have someone in the office to look after the system. Once the alarm is set off, the company will immediately inform the local police or send their own security personnel out to your home. This way, night or day, no matter where you go, your home will always be protected.

Investing in a burglary system of any type is always a smart investment. You have several different to choose from, depending on your needs. If you’ve been worried about your home and the things you keep inside your home, you should invest in a burglary system. They will help you keep peace of mind, and know that you are protected. They don’t cost that much either, which makes them an even better investment. If you own a home – you shouldn’t hesitate to invest in a burglary system.
