Just when you think you’ve heard it all, you discover a new twist on ordinary activities now deemed by society at large, to be an addiction. Computer addiction is a case in point. The term ‘addiction’ usually conjures up ideas pertaining to drugs or alcohol. This colloquialism has bad connotations. When you hear people talking of computer addiction, how do you know if you aren’t a geeky addict?
Now, in the strictest sense, according to one dictionary/thesaurus definition, addiction is described as fixation, inclination, bent; see habit, obsession. This description certainly does not connote a rabid personality, engulfed in an obsession which takes over their lives. The word, fixation, is ambiguous. You may have a fixation on achieving your goals. This is, rhetorically, not synonymous with addiction. The word, inclination, is much more mild. You may have an inclination to have a spotless home environment. This doesn’t mean that you exercise that inclination. The word, bent, is most ambiguous. You may be bent on not wasting food, but still, it happens. So how does the term, computer addiction, fit into your life and the popular psychology?
Let’s assume that computer addiction is a legitimate addiction. If one might suffer from computer addiction, here are the signatures:
1.Your computer use becomes as enthralling to you as heroin is to a regular heroin user. You just can’t leave it alone, and still feel right. You can’t function unless you’ve had a computer ‘fix’. 2.You find yourself neglecting family and financial responsibilities to the extent that you’d rather post on your fave message boards than fix dinner or pay the bills. 3.You’d rather surf the net than kick back and watch an excellent movie. 4.You’d rather surf the net than talk face to face with a friend or family member. 5.Upon waking, you rush to your computer to make a connection. You don’t even know what you want to research. 6.If someone interferes with your surfing, you grumble some nonsensical reply that leaves them in no doubt as to your priorities ” the computer wins.
If these six points describe your computer use, you may well have a computer addiction. However, if you look over the signals, it’s also apparent that this so-called addiction is easily remedied. Once you realize that your computer use has re-prioritized your life negatively, you can simply set new priorities. Take care of business and family needs, then surf to your heart’s content.
Just because you’re obsessed with what the net has to offer, doesn’t make you a computer addict. Discipline yourself in your thirst for information. Don’t let the net supersede your family life. I have had the opportunity to play many different video games. The violence in some is just incredible, and in many ways very scary and worrisome. For the most part, I have grouped video games into two categories for myself. One is Fantasy and the other is reality. Reality games are games that have been created from an event such as a war that actually took place or a certain type of group such as the police, or maybe simply playing as a gang member. Let’s not forget the road racing games and sports, which are a few of the games we can classify as non-violent.
The second types of games are fantasy games, which are best described as science fiction Themes. They can be space games, or they can be a witches and wizards type of games, which is where World of Warcraft would fall into.
Both games, if played enough with enough focus and with enough intensity can make you believe that you are actually in the game or part of it, the actions you make the game make are actions you are really doing. This is the scary part because I believe a reality game can make someone mix the game with what is going on right in front of their face. A fantasy game, sure you can believe you’re in it, but it’s harder to believe that when your walking around in the park that the game is in front of your face.
Case in Point: a good example of a reality game is Grand Theft Auto, which is a very controversial game. I’ll admit it, I’ve played it, and I’ve had fun, but it really concerns me what the meaning is behind the game and how real it truly is. I work in Law Enforcement now and for anyone who has played that game they know that the police are often killed. I can’t play that game anymore because the reality of that fact is too real for me.
If I had to choose between the two types of video games reality or Fantasy I would much rather watch someone, or more specific a younger person play a fantasy game than a reality game because sure, it probably still has violence, but it still is a problem solving game, which are the ones I like to play, and it does not connect reality to the actions you are playing.
There have been a number of violent crimes that have been at least attempted to be connected to the perpetrator playing some sort of violent game. Most of the games I have heard about involved in these types of cases would fall into the reality type of games. I can’t say I have ever heard someone in court say “I killed someone because I played World of Warcraft”
It’s a problem that honestly is not going to go away because violence is an unfortunate part of human nature. Violent games sell, so as long as people are willing to buy them, people will be willing to make them, and as technology keeps getting better than the reality of games and the violence included in them will keep getting more real.
The only solution is to monitor the people who play them such as children. If something just isn’t right about how they are acting, maybe its time for a game adjustment. World of Warcraft is great so if you have to choose between games, I would suggest to stay in the Fantasy types or non-violent games all together.

There’s no question that personal computers were built with baseline functionality- all of them can process documents, and to a certain extent, play multimedia and display the same. However, there are significant difference when we think of specific needs of users of personal computers.

With this in mind, we are simply talking about space.
With regards to the size of the hard drive, at the very least an 80 GB drive would do for the college student, while some may need space as large as 300 GB. After considering the memory of the PC, then you should now think about the computing power, and that depends on the type of processor you get. A processor with speeds like 1.5 GHz and a 512 MB video card would suffice for the student. If you are thinking about these specs for a gamer, however, then there are some changes.
A gamer would be using the personal computer in two ways- for work and for leisure. The leisure part would be the one that would tax the computer most, because it would be running algorithmic engines non-stop, playing multimedia and receiving input from the user at the same time.
In terms of the hard disk space, how much would a game fanatic need? For sure, 300 GB of disk space would not be enough, so a larger and more generous hard drive is needed. However, hard drives that can take more than 300 GB tend to be costly, so a way to get around this for gamers is to install more than one hard disk onto their PC. Think about it: installing one game may use up more than 5 GB of space alone, and a lot of virtual memory will also be needed as the game is being played.
A gamer’s personal computer also needs a lot of computing power- the processor should be built like the Intel Skulltrail to work the environment, more or less. Otherwise, a fuller gaming experience would not result at all. These are the big difference between computers of the two types of people.

This is critical because anymore, the same old promotional materials and product delivery just cannot cut it in a tough market. Can you imagine a brand as image and design-centric as Veer handing out pens or key chains?
The important thing to remember is that your promotional materials can be valuable branding tools or wasted marketing dollars. Your ability to keep them relevant to your brand will determine which. There is such a diverse selection of unique branded material available that there is no excuse for relying on the same handouts as everyone else.

Every child has a dream of becoming somebody awe inspiring someday. Some would want to grow up to become a lawyer. Some would want to become a doctor. They would say: “I want to become a doctor so that I could cure sick people!” For boys, I guess what tops on this “when I grow up list” is to become an astronaut: everyone seems to have undergone the astronaut phase. (Case in point: Toy Story where Buzz Aldrin replaced the cowboy toy) Some poor souls want to become lawyers. (only heaven knows for what reason!) A few noble ones would want to become teachers– “So that we could mould the minds of the future!” (Pretty mature reason for a child.) For girls, the most favored profession is: “I want to be a famous actress or a fashion model!” It figures. Most of them are vain. Hehe
But as far back as I could remember, all I ever wanted was to be involved in games. I love games. I love the feel of being transported to a different world. I am perpetually amazed how a game could make you forget the time and make you forget a problem. Do you have a problem with your love life? Play counterstrike! Imagine that the evil and vile love of your life face on a terrorist and shoot it with a machine gun. Exterminate! Obliterate! Oops I am sorry. I am getting out of line here. Anyway, I have been envious of professional game players. They go from one tournament to another and earning money while playing computer games. Then they get to win really cool prizes like a top of the line PC or the latest release mobile phone. Talk about lucky people.
I have mentioned that I love playing games. Unfortunately, games do not like me. I suck at playing games. No matter how long I have played at a game, once I reached a point where I know the basics, I do not seem to improve. My friends almost always kick my ass in whatever games we play. In Defense of the Ancients (a popular game mode in Warcraft III), my friends would make it a tradition to hunt my character for I am an easy kill. They would say: “Hey guys! Check out the free 200 gold here!” and they would just laugh.
I know then that if I can’t be a gamer I would be a game developer. Blessed with an eye for details and syntax construction, I studied IT in college. Flash has been my favorite software and pretty soon, I began developing flash games for Bratz games.
