Additional steps should be taken, as well. For instance, consider setting up a neighborhood watch within your area. This helps ensure that all of your neighbors’ homes, as well as your own, are protected. Thieves are much less likely to consider venturing into an area where homeowners take their security seriously. A neighborhood watch can be a very simple way to provide enormous benefits to everyone’s security. If you’re a bit more enterprising, there are several other steps that can be taken to help ensure greater home security and peace of mind.
Your yard constitutes a threat to your security. Trees, while adding to the value of your home, as well as the aesthetics, can provide burglars with a way to access upper level windows, which are usually not protected by an alarm system. Cut these trees down, or trim back branches that might allow a burglar access to your home. In addition, consider removing any shrubs (or at least cutting them back) around the base of your home. These can provide cover for burglars and can increase your threat level. Keeping a neat, well-maintained yard at all times is one of the best defenses against a break-in.
