Water

This is the most common or the traditional way of putting out fire. However, this is only effective on ordinary combustible materials such as papers, wood, plastics and other solids. They are scary to use on electrical sources because anyone can be at risk for electrocution.

Baking Soda

This is best used on fires caused by fires brought about oils or grease. Just remember to turn off the source of hit, in this case gas before putting baking soda. It is also best for putting out small electrical and fuel fires.

Salt

This is the same concept as throwing sand to bury the fire. Salt when dropped in large amounts can deprive fire of oxygen. Actually, some people claims, Epsom salt is the best salt to put out fire. If you are not familiar with this, Epsom salt is used for washing the face, exfoliant and other beauty regimen you can think of. Now it can work as one of the best fire extinguishers.

It is your duty to protect your home. Fighting fire is never easy that it why it is better to try to put a stop on it before it gets worse. If you have no special equipment, you need to be resourceful and use the things that are available in your kitchen to fight fire. Just make sure you turn off the sources before fighting it for your safety and for the effectiveness of your remedy.
